Overwintering in Spain (Campervan)

I can not face another winter in England. I'd like to take my 90 days anywhere between the start of Nov and the end of March. TBH - I don't want to be driving around much if the place is interesting enough to stay for several weeks - I crave peace and quiet - I just want to read, paint, write and play my guitar - it would be good to have somewhere to walk as I'll probably have to bring my dog with me (Springer - she'll walk for miles) - the mistake I make too often is to go with the dog - thinking I'll be having some quiet time - then I end up walking 10 miles a day and being too tired to do anything - like read, or write or even cook so after a week away I come home tired! I hate crowds, people, noise. So long as there's somewhere to buy the basics from I can fend for myself very well - I don't need restaurants or shops or even places to visit - I hate touristy places. If it wasn't for the weather I'd do this in the UK.

Can anyone recommend some sites I can pitch up with electric and stay for anything between a week and maybe a month - TBH - in the right place I'd stay for the best part of my 90 days - the less moves the better - I just need to fill as much of those 90 days as possible with not being in England. I need to get away from everything and everyone where the weather is just warmer and dryer than what we've all had to put up with for... well - since the beginning of 2023 - I didn't ride my bike once last year!

Have you got any suggestions for sites (bar antidepressants!) - in my travels I met a couple who spend 6 months on a campsite just south of Inverness in the summer and then move south to Devon or Cornwall and spend another 6 months there - I'd even consider something like this as an alternative to hoping over to Spain - I'd consider suggestions about places that allow long term stays.

thanks

No idea where you'd go but I'd be interested in hearing on where you choose and how it goes Wink

I assume you mean Southern Spain as the north can be cold in winter. More crisp sunny days but still cold. I wonder if there are Campervan sites on facebook that you could join to get a better picture? Probably have more tips too.

We go every year for a few months and one of our favourite places is Los Alcazeres, we stay on an Aire which is cheaper the longer you stay. Electric is charged by the unit, there are also a few facebook groups that have a mine of information.

This is on my list too, although not realistic for another 3 years till one of my pensions starts paying out at 60.
I intend to spend the winter at a site on the coast at Diano Marina, just over the border into Italy. There's a bus runs all along the coast to Nice via San Remo, Menton, Monaco.
The weather will not be warm-warm but it's the light I crave.

A few Facebook groups for people who do this.
I know the Hymer Owners group has lots of this info as many owners already do this, its worth asking

I think that you might like the area around Tarifa or around Cadiz or Sanlucar de Barrameda in the SW of Spain . Spain but not the Costas, pretty quiet with lots of huge long sandy beaches and wild places . It is the Atlantic coast though so is prone to stormy weather but we've just come back from 5 weeks there and although yes, we did have rain we also had enough warm sunny days to do li6ts of walking and cycling. We usually stay in campsites but there are lots of aires and organised stopovers and plenty of people stay in those. Get an ACSI card for cheaper campsite.stays and also look up Campercommect and Park4night apps .

You could Also maybe consider south west coast of Portugal?

Most campsites will do a cheaper rate for longer stays , but of course that does limit you if you want to move around..
ACSI eurocamping is the card you need. Also its good to get a Bip and drive device for motorway olls ( but in Spain youll mostly only find those on the east coast or costas (
Its Via tag for France if you plan to drive down all the way) you can buy them inthe UK though.
You also need to know that gas bottles are different and youll need to take a compatible regulator (except for the blue camping gaz ones which are the same). And if you dont want to use electric hook up, getting portable solar power units are a good idea .
There are lots of good MH blogs online with tips.

Olivia has some campervan sites (Valencia province).

The thought of a winter in Spain sounds appealing - but would prefer a small flat/house to rent!

I don't know of campsites but the Murcia region of Spain is the warmest in our Winter. Los Alcazares was mentioned upthread or somewhere like Lo Pagan. I'm sure there will be sites that take camper vans out of season.
