We are thinking of buying a tent but have never been camping before (I am not counting my Girl Guide experiences...)

DH has found this and we are wondering if anyone knows if this is a good tent? There are 5 of us, the children are nearly 8, nearly 6 and 3.5 yrs.

Any advice would be very welcome!

Hiya - it looks a lot like my tent. On teh plus side it's fairly easy to put up and is roomy. There are no negatives I can think of except that if you're camping for a long time or if the weatehr is bad it can seem quite small when there are a lot of you. If there are only two sleeping compartments then the middle bit tends to be used as a kind of sitting room/eating/play area and that could get a bit crowded with 5 of you.

My sister has a HUGE tent with several separate pods leading off a centre section which is more complicated to put up but lets her neices and step-daughter have a 'room' each.

We have the Khyam Ridgi-Pod Excelsior (scroll down) - with the porch inner which we use if we're just going away for a weekend (4 of us) & two pods which to use instead of the inner if we're camping for longer.

It is absolutely massive & tall, my over 6ft tall husband can stand comfortably in it, there's loads of indoor space for bad weather. It is pretty quick to put up as well (after the first few goes) - I can't manage it on my own although dh can. It is dark, which is a bonus for small children sleeping. It has stood up to well really bad weather (wind & rain).

Down side is that you need a big plot, on a small site you might even need two - and it is pretty big when packed, it takes up a lot of boot space in the car.

We love ours (have had it for 4 years now).
