Hi all you campettes,

so thinking of staying in a mobile home this year, never been to France or Italy and not sure where to go.Will be flying it as I'm in Ireland and the journey would be too much otherwise.

Sooo, maybe Lake Garda?Any recommendations? Is Bella Italia too over the top?Think I would like something smaller;have 3 ds ages 12,10 and 5.

Have been camping in England before and I liked Seaview International, and also ther was a little one I stayed on in Uplyme? v. sweet. So don't know if I'd like a huge place, but know my daughters would.

Le vieux Port has been raved about too, but dunno , any suggestions?

I always post this, but we went here last summer. We booked independently and had a great time. There is a pool, it has direct access to a lakeside beach (pebbles like them all), a decent enough restaurant and small supermarket. It wasn't anything like as big or flashy as the eurocamp ones, but for us it was great. We went for the very basic mobile home which was ok but just plonked in and amongst the tent pitches I we go again we will def go for their deluxe ones next time - fab lakeside views. We were the only English there amongst the Italians and Germans. If you have been to Lake Garda before, it is right next to the Canavaworld water place.

Oh and have you looked at

OK I started to add a camping company I once found called something like Roeun (a dutch one) who were very cheap. I can't find them now, will keep on looking!!

Fatzak, that looks really nice ,v. low key ,just what i like, what about the kids making friends though?Think my 12yo would huff for two weeks if there weren't any irish or english kids around(xenophobe already?hope not!)

Littleboo, do you drive to southwest coast? If we go to gascony , would it be a real killer from roscoff?Have just been checking airline prices-arrgh- should have done this ages ago..

We do Le vieux Port from Calais with an overnight stop. It is a great site (Hog Roast and lots of entertainment activities if you want them). The beach is great - never overcrowded, but it IS rough (surfers paradise).

Have stayed there twice - you have a lake, the sea & mountains all in easy reach. We drove into Spain as well and had a fab day out playing on the ski lifts etc in the summer.

we've always camped before but only in ireland and england and was only thinking of mobile homes because of the heat, what do you guys think?Could we risk using a tent, the inconvenience of the loo thing doesn't bother me tooo much..

yes, if it's hot I'd much prefer to be in a mobile home rather than a tent.

We're staying at Del Garda campsite this year, so I don't know whether we'd recommend it yet.

LOADS of tents at Le Viuex Port - although the first year we went there was a torrential downpour that flooded loads of them out! Facilities are good though.

I guess it would be more difficult for the kids to make friends if there are no other English/Irish, but the Germans and Dutch kids always speak such good English!!
