Anyone thinking of buying a tentipi or teepee with stove?

Hi, our trusty trailer tent has finally had its day and is unusable after the welding on the frame decided to fail completely.
It is almost 25yrs old after all.
I've always liked to idea of having a tipi but the poles were always a problem.
But now there seems to be loads of tipi style tents around and some can even be fitted with a little stove and chimney for those chilly nights if you wish to camp in spring or autumn.
Found a great site www.soulpad.co.uk and these canvas tents are very spacious and only use 1 central pole which is telescopic/collapsable.
I've never liked the dome familly tents and think that real canvas is much nicer, but then that's me.
Anyone else thinking of getting one, or do you have one and how is it?

PMSL
That was hilarious florapostedchild

Be careful with canvas tents though. If they get put away with the slightest amount of dampness in them you're heading for mould which can't be removed. And they are loads heavier, esp when wet. That makes them more difficult to take down and pack.

For us it was important to buy one that can be put up and taken down easily every day for a week, wet or not, and doesn't need to be left standing to dry for days after each tour. Synthetic is the low maintenance option but obviously we use ours for a different reason.

Yay, just bought ourselves a soulpad 4000 ease today!
We are going to rip out the old tent from the actual trailer and still be able to use the camping cooker and use the mattress.
Maybe we will just use the gas stove as heating as DH does not like the idea of a chimney coming out of the roof.
But with a pipsqueak stove and flue it comes out of the side of the tent so he may go for that.
Can't wait to go camping, rain or shine!

Hi Wellies! (Congratulations AB )

Yes, I can see that would be awful if you were backpacking or something. I will be really wary about the damp thing and try and leave it out in the garden till it's really dry...if there are ever a few days sans le pleut

I'm still bidding on the Gelert on ebay, in case we do any trekking around etc as I would not want to lug the Bell around. The plan is, once it's up it's up, and we leave it there for at least a week!

Thanks so much for all the tips. I'd be lost without MN

nice-one ripebury there will be some serious tent envy in your campsite

We were away in our new Obelink bell tent this weekend (not exactly the best weekend to choose for camping!).

We put it up in the dark on Friday night - took about 20 minutes but it was our first time - reckon it'll be a lot quicker next time. Saturday night it poured with rain most of the night - no leaks and even though we don't have a SIG, the rubber flap arrangement worked fine. Fortunately this morning was dry and by the time we took it down around 11.30am, it was almost completely dry, although we are hanging it out over the stairs overnight just to be on the safe side.

Almost certainly wouldn't take it away for a one nighter but for weekends or longer, you can't beat it and with rugs and cushions it looks great too.

Ah, thanks for reporting back! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and it sounds fabby and very user friendly - I wouldn't want to test it this morning however!!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 10/03/2008 18:04

Glad it went well!

Here's a question for you lot - how do you prefer to see the word written? teepee? tepee? tipi?
Argh! They all just look wrong written down!

FloraPosteschild · 11/03/2008 10:10

I think the first or second, Wellies. Not the one with an i in it.

Obelink have despatched mine but the tracking doesn't register yet

I am quite excited nonetheless!

Surfette · 11/03/2008 10:28

Shouldn't be long now then. Ours arrived two days after we got notification it had been despatched.

WelliesAndPyjamas · 11/03/2008 11:11

Oh, I know, floraposteschild! That one with the i in it is like hearing nails being dragged down a blackboard to me!

NaughtyNigel · 15/03/2008 22:09

someone stop me - i'm a bit merry - i want to buy a nice big belltent and a lovely little pipsqueek stove. DH will flip. got 3 tents in the attic already. i sound like a madwoman on the verge - will have to PUT OFF THE COMPUTER AND WALK AWAY.
but they're soooooooo nice.

Flight · 16/03/2008 08:23

NN perhaps you will feel better if you sell me your other tents

My bell tent arrived on Friday - still untested as our garden is too small!

The kitchen is already full of the 'spare' which I unwrapped and, yes, cannot get abck into its bag.

Drowning in tents here...

Hello everyone, this thread was ages ago but does anyone know how to order a bell tent from obelink. Found the tent but how do you actually select and pay for it. I have clicked on everything but can't seem to do it. Thanks

Surfette · 04/08/2008 00:22

Hi Vivi

The way I did it was to open a separate tab with the English version of the site on it (tent-tents I think but you can get to it by clicking on the British flag at the top of the Obelink page). Then I ran through the ordering process for a random item on the English site at the same time as doing the equivalent on the Dutch page - the order of information required is the same. Obviously there is a point you have to stop to avoid actually buying something from the English site but I think by then you should be up and running.

You will get sent a confirmation email confirming your order and eventually an order number and link you can follow to track your order - this is accessible in English.

Once the confirmation emails came in I just cut and pasted everything into Babelfish and, whilst some of the translations are a bit random, they are good enough to give you the gist.

Hope this helps and good luck
