I've been looking at various sales online because we've bene invited to WOMAD this summer and I thought maybe this is a good time to buy a good tent at a bargain price iyswim?

Have bee looking at Outdoor World specials and there are so many...

Which are the really good ones? What do I look for?

It is for me and two little boys, but want to be able to entertain our friends a bit as well.

What else will we need? Sleeping bags obv!
So excited as we never had a proper tent before!

Did I miss something in the book? Did Flora get up to something in the woodshed? Wasn't she Robert Poste's child?

Sorry can't help you with the tent, but at least this has bumped it for you

FloraPosteschild · 05/03/2008 17:02

You didn't miss something, it's because my mother is like FP.

Thanks for the bump!

It depends on how much you want to spend FP. Also whether you want a SIG and if you need to be able to put it up without another adults help.

FloraPosteschild · 06/03/2008 10:43

Dusty, thanks...what's a SIG please? I would be happy to attempt erection alone but aware this might not actually be possible with some of the big ones.

Have bid on a Gelert satellite on the 'bay. It looks enormous, I guess it is one you'd take along in the car, no?

I was hoping to spend not much over £100. I think the Gelert is much bigger than what we need but it's local and I could pick it up - I've been hunting around on the web and there are a lot of offers on new ones though.

This is the old version with a 2000 HH instead of the 300 which it looks like they brought in last year.

Oh a sewn in Groundsheet??

I wanted to ask about that...what is better about it, I have seen some with separate Gs.

A SIG is a sewn in groundsheet which is nice for keeping out the creepy crawlies and makes it warmer. I think you'll be lucky to find one for a tent under 100 though and its not necessary. We have camped at Easter for 3 years in a tent without a SIG and survived lol

Are you planning on using it a few times a year or just once or twice in the summer?

dustystar · 06/03/2008 11:08

Will you have a car? You'll need it for a family tent.

Oh that's lovely Tmmj, thankyou...

I have been browsing this board and found the Bell tent thread, below...I am in lurve

Dusty, how does it work with the groundsheet being separate? I have images of the rain just puddling and seeping in at the sides.

The Bell tents on the dutch website come with sewn in or separate and I don't know which to choose...

Would be using it at festival, and then prob in the garden as well quite a lot. It looks so nice, I would never want to take it down!

If it rains really heavily it comes in abit but otherwise its fine. Bedroom tend to have SIGs if the flysheet doesn't so you stay dry in your bed. Vango is a good make.
