Camping near London

We have booked a week in Lee Valley, Dobbs Weir in August as a base to do London.

It ideal as we can also drive to the Harry Potter studio tour for a day trip.

The dc are 10,10 and 12.

Has anyone done this? Will we be knackered and only pop in for a single day trip? Or is the train in really easy to do?

I don't know how long this train takes, but we have camped the other side of London- Crystal Palace and Abbey wood (before the Elizabeth line). So not super central but the journey in/out was part of the experience. It shouldn't be a problem for your aged children.

I find the trick with London is to try and minimise the travel once in. So group the things you want to do on the same day that are in the same area. Don't for instance, go to the science museum, then across to the tower of London, then to Buck Palace. A bit of planning here can really save some legs and time.

Will you drive to Broxbourne station ? Or A.N. Other station? I think the half hour walk between campsite and station might be difficult with kids after walking round London / attractions.

But otherwise, no problem!

Get the 12 year old set up with a Young Visitor Oyster card https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/visiting-london/getting-around-london/best-ways-for-visitors-to-pay

Broxbourne is just outside the Oyster card / TfL travel zones, so it might be best to drive to another station to access travel to get the best value out of the daily / weekly travel card price cap.

The 10 yos travel free within the TfL area. (Check any time restrictions for morning peak period)
