We go to places sun h as those attached to pubs, that way you aren't cooking in the rain. There's a couple in Derbyshire that are nice and another near Tewksbury. I'm no good with names

I think the best in northern Italy are Union Lido and Marina di Venezia. They’re both 5 star but can get quite pricy during peak time. Bella Italia on Lake Garda is a favourite of my extended family. It’s easy to get to and is within walking distance of a lovely town. We’ve been once and the accommodation was basic but we didn’t spend much time indoors as the weather was so lovely.

I love the Forest campsites in the Autumn. Graffham is lovely as you are often in your own little clearing and it’s properly dark at night.
Also love coastal walking so do a lot of September & October trips to Cornwall and Dorset.
What area are you looking at, and what facilities do you need?

TheWayOfTheWorld · 23/08/2022 20:38

I was going to ask this too - is October half term pushing it too much (even with wood burner or heater?)

cantsleep2022 · 23/08/2022 21:08

@Milliways
Anywhere south would be ideal and I am happy to wild camp I think

Have the equipment so putting it to the test would be good

@TheWayOfTheWorld we do end of Jan in North of Scotland with a wood burner. Hot water bottles, under blankets and lots of gloves are all helpful.

White Mark Farm is a lovely small but spacious site, with Red Kites landing in the field. They have a small covered area with kettle, microwave and fridge/freezer for those that want it, handy for the backpackers that stop here as it’s on the Ridgeway. It’s a chalk field so always well drained.

Postern Hill forest site at Marlborough has a lovely feel, and an easy stroll into the town for a browse around the market.

@Milliways thanks so much they both look amazing !

I would pick somewhere that allows campfires so you can sit out by the warmth. Check what time dusk is in your chosen week, the evenings will be much longer.

I like to get cooking and eating done before darkness falls and not use up too much battery power lighting everything up. But I never have EHU.
