I’m starting to wish I hadn’t had this idea! Me and two young teens, experienced campers but usually with a car and in the uk! Any last minute top tips! We have tent, mats, sleep g bags, stove, mallet, duct tape, pan, sieve, knife, clothes, coats, towels (those giant tea towel ones), bags for rucksacks, string, plates etc. eeeeek!

Mugs / plates / forks etc?
What are you going to sit on? Beach mat?
I wouldn’t take a mallet if backpacking. You can usually push pegs in, or use a stone.
Swiss army knife or similar with corkscrew / can opener / blade / little scissors
Torches / lantern

PuttingDownRoots · 14/07/2022 17:37

Powerbanks for phones
Adaptor plugs
Travel wash (for clothes)

Sittininafield · 14/07/2022 17:39

Yes I was wondering about the mallet - but if the ground is hard…? We are tacking tiny chairs, it’s our ‘luxury’.

Swiss Army knife- good call! I’ve got one somewhere!

Bathing suits?

What kind of terrain?

SuperCamp · 14/07/2022 18:36

Someone would lend you a mallet, I’m sure.

LittleMissLego · 14/07/2022 18:38

A pack of playing cards?

A mini first aid kit (just some plasters, antiseptic cream, antihistamines, paracetamol)

DaftyLass · 14/07/2022 18:41

Gloves, if you will be harvesting wood/moving rocks/lifting pots off the fire
Fast Bio degrading toilet paper
Extra socks
Bandaids/moleskins if you are covering rough terrain/longer distance

Magicmagician · 14/07/2022 18:44

Oh enjoy! Pen and paper (for word games etc), sun cream, hats , insect repellant, cash (if you’re going somewhere remote/unlikely to have a card machine), pillows?! (Or will you use jumpers?)

demotedreally · 15/07/2022 22:45

Slight hijack to ask if you are taking PJ's? We are cycle camping tomorrow so packing light and I can't decide on this

I will offer you - mini stove, eye mask and ear plugs

Rain cover for your backpacks, plastic bags for wet/dirty clothes, ibuprofen/paracetamol
Out of curiosity...where are you going? planning the same to leave in two weeks to France.

Sittininafield · 17/07/2022 10:12

Scandanavia. Yes we are taking pjs, long ones, I reckon it will keep sleeping bags cleaner + I hate the feel of the the synthetic fabric.

You can make a cotton sleep sack for your sleeping bag:

Take an old sheet and fold in half, then stitch around the side and bottom, leaving a pocket at the top.

Its great as it feels nice and soft and also keeps the sleeping bag clean. You can throw it in the wash when you are doing laundry.

Just got back from minimalist camping (motorcycle but I swear I have less space than hiking!) I took:

Tent
Sleeping bags
Thermorests
Stove and nesting pots
Cutlery, plates, mugs, tin opener, folding spatula
Coffee bags, tea bags, ultra concentrated squash
Ultra light collapsible chairs
Rain coats and water proof trousers
Crocs
Sandals
Sachets of sauces acquiredGrin
Washing pods/tablets (if using the former, put inside a ziplock from experience)
Sleep ware, pillowcase (you stuff it with clothes)
Fleece
Clothing including warm socks
First aid kit including sunscreen, bug spray and bite cream
Foldable hat
Tissues
Loo roll.
Dirty laundry bags (carrier bags folded)
Shopping bag

Head torch

For Sweden, the most chemically noxious insect repellent you can find. No messing about with lightly citronella scented candles, go 100% Deet. Jungle formula.

Second this. The mosquitoes in Sweden were vicious (and there were hoards of them).

SuperCamp · 23/07/2022 21:25

I was in Norway, it was the first time I had seen mosquito hats with the net, against the ‘mugs’.
