Cooking - electric or gas?

Going camping for the first time in our tent next month and currently looking for something to cook on. Have noticed on a couple of sites that people recommend multicookers and induction hobs, does anyone have any thoughts on these? I like the idea of not having to faff about with gas, worry about where to cook if it rains etc. We've got an EHU booked and I'll check the wattage beforehand. TIA!

Think about whether you will always camp using EHU. During the past couple of years and the increase in staycations, it is sometimes difficult to book EHU.
Another problem with an induction hob is the amps that it draws. You might be OK with that in the UK but I suspect that on the continent you won't be able to power it.
Also you’ll need pots and pans with iron or stainless steel in them and therefore they’re usually pretty heavy. For camping, we've got a set of lightweight aluminium pans, which are far more practical for the purpose.
Personally, I’d go for a double gas burner with a grill underneath.

I use a 1 ring gas stove, portable BBQ and kelly kettle (this is less practical but fun, but does boil water and cook). I never have EHU. This is usually for 2-3 people at a time.

My BBQ is a Lidl middle aisle buy which works fine, but DB has a proper Webber portable one which is much more controllable because of the lid, and has a larger cooking surface. You can cook a lot on a BBQ - not just grill meats, but make skewers of veg, foil packets of all sorts, bake potatoes in the coals, put a pot/kettle onto spare space on the grill while cooking (especially useful once finished cooking to heat water for tea/washing up later!).

On Cub camp, cooking for up to 28 people, we use 2 sets of double gas rings - they're larger than the suitcase size so can take large pots, and use a proper bottle of butane so burn hotter than the smaller cannister style. I usually only use 3 rings (2 x25l pots of pasta and 1 of sauce, or 2 pans for french toast and the kettle for leader's morning coffee, etc).

But my little 1 ring does me great most of the time, I don't have shelter to cook under (if the weather is really that bad, we head for a local indoor option or grab a rotisserie chicken en route back to tent to have with bread/salad), but mostly it's fine and I just throw on a jacket if there is a bit of rain.

We try to use only one pan on one ring portable gas stove.

The less pans you use the less washing up there is to do.

Gas refils are cheap and easily available.

We have 1 induction hob, if we have EHU. If not we have a 2 burner gas. The pans are heavy, but we have a trailer tent and they work on both things. If it's your first time and you can use something from home that sounds like a better plan until you are sure that you really like camping. It might be an idea to work out what you will cook and then go on that. You could take an electric kettle, which will save on the gas (but you do have to think about wattage).
