Alps or dordogne-reliable weather needed for campervanning!

We have the Loire booked for this summer and I am already getting itchy booking fingers for next year! We’d like to take the campervan to the French alps- possibly round Annecy, but I am aware it might be rainy there in August. I think the Dordogne will be more reliable but don’t want to talk myself out of it. Any votes for Alps or Dordogne? How was your weather? Any great campsites to recommend? Kids will be 12 and 6 by then. Thanks all

Check out the Lot. Look at the parking in the river at St Cirq LaPopie, it’s glorious. It’s next to the Dordogne and just stunning. Figeai a great place to visit. I’ve got the Cele and Lot rivers

I have done both twice in the summer. Weather mostly warm and sunny in the Dordogne although a bit of rain. One sunny holiday in the Alps, one where the weather was cool and damp (although we were only there a few days).

Annecy is beautiful though, and not amongst the highest mountains which might make the weather better.

We’ve only ever had wall-to-wall sunshine in the Alps in August.
Highly recommend La Ravoire campsite.

I live in the Dordogne. August is usually very hot with very little rain. Also quite humid, I live near Brantome, north Dordogne where there is a campsite. There’s lots of lovely lakes in the area where you can camp. Look at St. Estephe near Nontron. They have a man made beach, pedalos etc.

Remember municipal campsites are less expensive.

We're campervanning in Europe at the moment and gave Annecy a swerve because it was forecast to be raining there last week. It's early in the season now though and we've had lots of rain.

I've been to the alps a lot in august. Some years it's been baking hot and others a little rainy. But the rain tends to be short storms rather than all day and it's still warm. So don't rule it out

We've had amazing weather in the dordogne. The grand massif (auvergne) has also been fabulous.
