Problems with a Gazebo next to a caravan

Not entirely camping; but I have a caravan as a stall at Events

I have a small awning but it only works on grass

When I put the gazebo next to the caravan there is a gap between them and the rain gets in

I could use the awning/awning rail between them but there is nothing to tie the cover on to the gazebo

Is there something easy i am missing?

Long piece of flexible plastic -as long as the caravan and 18” wide. Put it on the roof of the caravan, sticking over the edge to cover the gap. Weigh down with a couple of bricks?

Does the awning only work on grass because it needs staking into the ground? If so why not get some ground weights/ water barrels to tie it to?

The awning is quite small and the poles come apart if there is any wind; I guess I should elasticated them

The gazebo is OK except for the join I don't think I'd be allowed bricks on the roof (risk assessment) but maybe the awning rail can be used somehow

I have weights but the poles are too thin to fix to them I guess I could use the weights tied the the top somehow

I''d suggest make an awning 'end' on a length of PVC , and thread that through the awning rail, the other end of the PVC attach to the awning itself with market trader style clips. If you leave the PVC to collect the water that runs off both caravan and awning, then you can leave one side lower than the other, and clip a chute of PVC to direct the collecting water off to one side & away from your stall, attach this with another market trader bulldog clip to the lower end of your caravan somewhere

This ^ but use some electric tape (won't damage what it is stuck to) and make sure that it is slightly angled so that no rain builds up on top.

The caravan is quite curved so if I get an extra awning strip and use some leftover canvas I could make a strip

But if I clip it on the gazebo I think water will get in between

Maybe I could put the awning strip on the side edge of the gazebo and slit the 2 corners? I'd need to add something so the top/side doesn't flap?

Or maybe velcro on the spare canvas idea that then sticks to the velcro on the inside of the gazebo?

Or more velcro on the outside?

Or use the spare side velcro on to the gazebo then draped and guy ropes down over the caravan?

If there's an awning rail on the caravan, buy a length of awning tape and glue/stitch to a strip of tarpaulin that can act as a flap to the gazebo. You'll need to figure out how to attach it to the gazebo, or just make it long enough to pull over the full width of the gazebo.

The sides of the gazebo are fixed by velcro - so I thought I might use the the bit attached to the roof?

The gazebo Velcro is an option to make a piece something like this:

www.galatent.co.uk/shop/Gazebos/Gala-Shade-Pro-Gazebo-Gutter-Kits/07377?ppc_keyword=&gclid=CjwKCAjw7IeUBhBbEiwADhiEMeGgqI-gP5DGtbAQFoPMDXebgbRQJxINZwv5h0UHDVT2npVjKsJHzBoCQiMQAvD_BwE

That one is a strip of gazebo material used between two gazebos and acting as a gutter.

If you made something similar with one side to fit the awning rail and the other side with Velcro to match your gazebo.

If you have no side on your gazebo facing the caravan then you single side the gutter Velcro, but if you have a gazebo back with door etc then you could possibly double side the gutter. Velcro - attach the gutter to the gazebo roof strip and then the back side to the gutter strip

Bear in mind that these gutters are not perfect. We use them when we have two or more gazebos in a row, the water will gather in it, but if we strategically angle the gutter slightly higher at one side and lower on the other then the rain will tend to run downhill, it’s never perfect so occasionally run a finger along it to direct the water out. And remember to assume it’s full of water when packing down otherwise it is guaranteed to go down the back of your neck

(Note that the shape of your caravan should give you natural downward directions to each side and the water should flow out to each end - allow some extra fabric at each end to direct the flow away from the edge of your gazebo ends)

Tomikka · 16/05/2022 22:08

A messier look is to attach a tarp or spare gazebo side to the back of your gazebo, then throw guy ropes over your caravan, pull the side over the caravan then tie / peg the gut ropes.

This May or may not work well in the wind, as it could just aid lifting as a sail

KatyMac · 16/05/2022 22:49

Yes I thought to use a long strip right to the floor with velcro to arrange to the gazebo poles and maybe a couple of eyelets for pegging out (if I'm on grass)

That's the brand of gazebo I have and I agree about the arch making for a natural 'fall' of water

So much better than my attempted awning

Ok it works in principle - but there is currently no rain

This weekend will be the first trial!

Thanks everyone

Visit a camping and caravan outlet to see how they show awnings. They're sometimes on tarmac or indoors so would need to find a way of anchoring them to the ground.
