Hello campers, does anyone know of any farms with both camping and holiday cottages to let in the west country. We are planning to go on Holiday in August with my parents but they don't fancey camping and this would be an ideal solution TIA

here but the cottages sleep six or more

Haven't been myself but has been mentioned by other MNetters.

IorekByrnison · 11/01/2008 15:12

here is lovely (although not proper cottages).

Surfermum · 11/01/2008 15:22

Cottage Farm.

It's a small but immaculate campsite. Owners are really lovely. They have 2 cottages and a caravan on site. I've had a look round one of the cottages and it was lovely.

Lucycat · 11/01/2008 17:24

Had to lol Surfermum - when I clicked on your link and saw the windbreak corral around one of the tents

I detest that sort of windbreak 'it's all mine' mentality - but the site itself does look nice

Surfermum · 12/01/2008 11:47

Lol - I've just remembered - we are in those photo's!! Check out the "camping and caravans" section and the middle photo, bottom row. The burgundy windbreak is ours as is the fish on the pole!! But it wasn't for marking our territory - honest! It was to shield from the wind.

And the 3rd photo top row has dd and dsd in it - they were going for my newspaper (and sweets) at the next door campsite in their PJs!!

The site is lovely. What I like is the fact that everyone faces each other, and the kids just unzip the tent and go out to play, and it's safe. I hate the sites where the pitches are so small that there is no-where to play and the road is directly in front of the tents. We're going for our 3rd year this year and can't wait!

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 12:16

ahhh I bet that brings back happy memories every time you look at those photos.

We had to have one of those 'fishes on a pole' at Trevornick last summer - but that was because we were squashed in like sardines > and I couldn't find our (huge) tent on the way back from washing up!

God awful place.

Surfermum · 12/01/2008 12:20

Come to Cottage Farm it's fab! There's only about 40 pitches.

Dh ended up getting a pirate flag to go on the pole too!

Where's Trevornick? I'm sure I've seen it, is it Newquay?

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 13:09

Yes Holywell Bay, just south of Newquay - the beach there is gorgeous and it's fairly centrally located to see 'stuff' but it was very much a 'let's all go cheap camping and drink vast amounts until the early hours' campsite. Some people clearly loved it as they went back every year, aquiring new' friends' so the groups got larger.....

the pool was nice and dh liked the fishing lake but we were desperate to leave by the end of our 8 days.

We're off to France this summer and South Devon at Whit, but I've saved 'your' site into my Favourites

dustystar · 12/01/2008 13:11

WE stayed in a caravan there lucycat. I agree with you - fab beach but horrible busy noisy site.

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 13:13

d'you mean like me dusty?

Peachy · 12/01/2008 13:14

Pentewan has holiday homes as well as camping pitches as well, we went there last year- if you ahd hot weather it would be the most amazing place (private beach), even cold it was still nice- we took our parents but they camped.

dustystar · 12/01/2008 13:14

yes - I am still very jealous lol

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 13:16

Hello Peachy >

Pentwean Sands does look nice, we looked at it when we visited the Eden project last year and went back to Newquay the long way.

dustystar · 12/01/2008 13:17

Have you got a link for the peachy? We might go back to Cornwall this year.

Peachy · 12/01/2008 13:18

Oh that's right, it's very close by where we were. We didn't make it to Holywell this year as we went to Crantock or Polly Joke.
Cottage Farm has a curfew of 10.30 and everyone sticks to it. But not in a concentration camp sort of way. I'm generally knackered (or drunk) by that time anyway.

I remember one night when we were all out in front of the tents watching the shooting stars .

Oh and Kath, the owner, makes you a cuppa (and the kids a squash) on arrival.

dustystar · 12/01/2008 13:21

We're going to snowdonia this year and I'm not sure where else yet. It will be Charmouth at Easter and then i cant decide

Peachy · 12/01/2008 13:31

Which site at charmouth, Dusty? Know the place V V well (Dh grew up justa few miles away, and FIL lives fairly close now)

Peachy · 12/01/2008 13:33

(Should add at Charmouth but I suppose giving birth in a tent might damage the groundsheet )

Will be heading to Cheddar fopr Whitsun as usual- wanted to be certain the facillities would be nice with a new baby which theya re there, and as we know people on the staff should we have problems we'll be OK.

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 16:49

You'll be alright if you have a bathtub groundsheet Peachy!

or the weather that we had last Whit, then you could have a water birth!

Peachy · 12/01/2008 18:26

(not for me)

Could you imagine DH runinga round going 'don't get it on the tent, don't get it on the tent'? LOL

(and can you imagine if I e-mailed poor JoFeb on here, my doula, tot ell her I had decided to deliver in Amrch in a tent? thre's dedication, and there's insanity )

Did you know Glastonbury festival has midwives for those who refuse to miss out depsite being full term, btw?

(but because I am Sad Enough have spent out on a decent sling to avoid buggy-and-mud nightmares this season)

Lucycat · 12/01/2008 18:28

lol - you could call the baby, Khyam though! How cool would that be?

and just imagine your hippy credentials!

Peachy · 12/01/2008 18:32

oh gawd, dh suggested that as well >

stoppinattwo · 13/01/2008 17:17
