Walking / Cycling campervan holiday with 15mo in March - advice please!

I'm planning a week's holiday in March. We have a converted van (has a double and a cot for the 1 year old). The point of the holiday is to go walking and cycling.
Currently we are thinking of the Peak District. I have a couple of concerns:

  1. Ds will be 15 months. I'm not sure whether he will be walking or not. He is quite happy doing a day walk in the rucksack especially if we end up in a pub or something so he can have a good crawl around. How much walking / cycling can I get away with in a week? (It looks like Buxton swimming pool have regular baby swim times and even a baby gym session to give him baby centred activities to do).
  2. Currently we are planning on staying in the van. Either we could be campsite based all week or just use them for the odd night here and there. Is it worth me finding ones with children's parks? (He and daddy could play whilst I make tea?) What do we then do once we've put him to bed? (7.30pm) The van interior is just one space - his cot hangs over the foot of our bed. I did see one campsite that had a pub nearby - but I'm not sure our monitor will go that far and I would feel uneasy not having the monitor on (but we will be door alarmed). Or should I just spend the extra money on a self catered cottage? Please, any hints and tips for holidaying with a 15mo will be greatly appreciated!

campervan with a baby, sounds like hard work to me! either hire a caravan or cottage, then at least you can put the baby to bed and enjoy a glass of wine and a film.
