After 10 years of rain, wind, wind and rain damp uk camping we’re doing it. We’re going to France

Where shall we go?
Big busy sites aren’t for us
We’d like a pool
Nice scenery
Far enough south for a v high chance of good weather mid - end august but as short (!) a drive as possible (6 hrs ish I’m thinking)
A river or beach close by
Near a nice village / town for mooching
Any recommendations would be gratefully received. I don’t know where to start (having been no where except Paris and the south coast previously)

Sorry about typos on previous post. My lads learned to kayak at the place I posted. It is marvellous for families. I think we went back 7 times.

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere - we camped in France in Aug 2020 and 2021. We had booked a site with Yelloh Village both times - they were very accommodating for our friends who couldn't make it in the end, and have transferred their deposit to this year, so they didn't lose anything. Not sure what the status will be this year, but it wasn't crowded at all where we were last year - lots of French families on our site but we were the only Brits last year, and the campsite was extremely quiet in 2020 - but people were very compliant with masks etc . We are fully expecting to go this August and have booked the first week - will plan where to go the 2nd week when we're there (will be end of Aug by then so not a peak week). As long as you have suitable insurance, I can't see it being a problem.

Loire Valley is not bad driving wise if you are travelling to Calais. The weather has been good whenever I've been there but it's not guaranteed. It has been better there than when I've been to the Vendée and is a shorter drive.

I have stayed here orangeriedebeauregard.com/ before and it was very nice. It was just the right size to have a few low-key things going on but not too busy. There is a lovely pool, no slides or anything. The nearest town is Amboise which is very interesting but a drive away. There is a small village within walking distance.

This summer we are going to the Huttopia site at Saumur. I haven't been there before but it looks like agian it is fairly low key.

I last went to France in 2020 but didn't camp. I've been looking into travel insurance and a couple seem to cover you if Covid-related travel restrictions are brought in. I think it was Churchill and Direct Line.
