Rainy forecast, campervan holiday planned - where to go?

DH and I (plus our one DC) are planning on heading off in my dad’s campervan this half term. But the weather looks wet! DC is already complaining about “camping”, though my dad’s campervan is cosy and quite posh.

Any suggestions on where we should go?! Good campervan sites?

We’re pretty outdoorsy, but all day every day outside in the rain isn’t quite what we expected. (But then, this is England Grin)

Our starting point is Cambridge on Sunday for one week and we’re open to going anywhere.

I would love some ideas! We’ve had really shit holidays for the last few years. I’d hoped this would be fun, but am feeling a little nervous it will be wet and miserable.

Campervanners - where do you go to in bad weather?!

Somewhere near good indoor attractions
Eg Portsmouth for the Historic Naval Dockyard
Brighton for the Royal Pavilion, amusement arcades
New Forest for Bovington Tank Museum.

Check the weather forecast in all directions about 2 hours from home, it won’t be raining everywhere. Try PitchUp website and filter for campsites which allow fire pits (and hire them out) as these make camping much nicer if it’s chilly

Thank you! Like the idea of checking for hiring fire pits / having them. That will make it much cosier at night if the rain pauses! Will also keep checking the weather and adjusting plans accordingly!

There’s also Castleton in the Peak District - 4 different Blue John caves to explore if it’s pouring, and lovely walks. Close to Chatsworth with its lovely gardens. Plenty of cream teas. A cycle route along an old railway line.
How old is your DC, and what sort of thing do they enjoy? Are you taking bikes?

Mirrormirrormirror · 19/10/2021 07:58

We’re not taking bikes (I don’t own one) but would be up for hiring for a day!

Dc is a physically active age 6 (can ride a bike, swim really well, walk for hours).

That sounds fantastic!

Parkdean Vauxhall has an indoor swimming pool, soft play and is half an hour form Bewilderwood. It’s also close to the Great Yarmouth aquarium (for wet weather).

Southwold. The forecast isn't too bad for next week. Cool, but not much in the way of rain predicted. Not too far from Cambridge either.

I fancy Southwold myself.
North wales, Snowdonia catches the rain, the Llyn Peninsular general has better weather, very nice area too.

This excellent pub lets you stop on the carpark for free providing you eat in the pub, foods excellent.

We are going today. Only up the road to Brean but we will go swimming, the fair and prob hang about the complex playing the 2p machines and maybe go to one of the kids Halloween shows. In between we quite like chilling in the van reading or watching TV. If we were at home me and dh would find jobs to do so it's a nice break and gives dd our u divided attention. We have wellies brollies and warm clothes Wink
