Bell tents

I'm thinking of buying a bell tent ready for camping next year. I've always loved the look of them, but also need something easy to put up by myself, and I also like the "open plan" feel to them as I get a bit claustrophobic in some tents.

There's me and 2 children, so ideally want space for 1 double and 2 single air beds and general paraphernalia. Would a 5m be big enough?

Also, do I go for canvas or a lighter fabric? I prefer the idea of the traditional canvas but would I struggle with the weight of it, putting it up and getting it back in the car afterwards ( particularly if it's wet)? We are very much fair weather campers, so more likely to worry about being too hot rather than too cold!

I agree with TheABC and would add a point about an inner. We use an inner in our 5m bell because we don't like bugs. It's fab at keeping out bugs and keeping in body heat at night, but it really cuts the space. We have to work hard to get everything and everyone inside and round a card table, and then no one is allowed to move!

We have 5m cotton canvas bell tent, for two children and two adults. Plenty of room!

Personally, I would advise to go for the cotton as it stays cooler/less sweaty/condensation.

We have a 5m canvas one for 10 years and love it. Very airy and cool. There are five of us and we have a double camp bed and three mats (they are teens/tween so not little). I can put it up and take down on my own (easier with two).
