Can I put up Montana 6p with little help?

I'm raging as NOT so 'D'H has had a complete meltdown and screamed at the kids that the camping trip we had planned for tomorrow is cancelled.

I'm still going and will do it on my own as I'm not being yelled at by a control freak and being scolded like a child.

The question is do I take the Montana 6p, the kids are 10, 8, 8 but are like chocolate teapots (Adhd/Asd, yes all 3) and ask for some help at the crucial stage from a neighbour/ warden OR do I say fuck it and buy an inflatable tent from decathlon?

I'm an experienced camper but the tent is a bit big, with heavy steel poles.

I'm torn as a new tent even if expensive will be smaller and we are away for 7 days, with some rain strongly possible, but on the other hand it would be so much easier with an inflatable.....

So wise people in my phone what's a girl to do?

I managed to put up a similar tent to that pretty much solo with a distracted asd/adhd 8yo who did a small amount of the effort but nothing I couldn't have managed. It's not exactly easy but you don't have to get everything perfectly positioned first off - you get it roughly right and then go around adjusting the pegs until it's all correctly tent-shaped0

I have the Montana 5p! They’re very similar and the answer is YES!

i had this tent and put it up single handed.
i put the curved roof poles in then stood it up before putting in the long side poles to get it up fully.
it's a great tent, you can do it (& if you struggle, someone will help you)

Sorry, perhaps should have given a reply on the “D”H rather than enthusiastically diving into the tent… (I do love camping).

Any particular reason he’s had the screaming heeby jeebies? I hope this isn’t a frequent occurrence. If he’s going to change his mind and come with, you should probably have a Serious Talk before you go. And plan ahead for the next stress point which is coming. Because it will. Probably mid putting up the tent. Agree what language isn’t acceptable (eg screaming at children…)

But the tent… our SDCs put it up on their own at either 10, 10, 11 or 11, 11, 12. I can’t find it in my phone. And I’ve put it up alone (5’4”, unathletic size 14). My two top tips for the Montana:

  1. You will need to put these little spike/pegs attached to rings into the bottoms of the poles. If you just can’t get one to go in, then stop trying to force it, go back to the other side and undo the side you’ve already done (I know it will feel wrong to undo what you’ve done!) But you should then be able to do it, and then go back and redo the original one. Sounds nonsense, but if you find yourself in this position, you’ll understand what I mean!
  2. If the DCs are being irritating spanners, tell them they need to help by going inside the tent and holding it up. It doesn’t. But it won’t hinder either, and they’re out the way.

Good luck, hope you have a great time.
Maybe you should use the time to think about your H and what his behaviour does to you and the kids. Hopefully he will do the same, does he often react in this way?

Hope the tent is up and you are relaxing in a camping chair with Wine by your lovely tent. (Assuming there may not be the signal available for the purpose of reporting back)

@CoffeeAndShortbread how did it go?
Hope you went, managed no problem and had a great week.
