What else can I heat on a gas stove in a pan besides chilli?

Good morning.

On the first night of camping, we heat up an already made chilli in a pan on the gas stove, and eat it with nachos.

Nice and easy, but…..we are getting fed up of chilli.

Does anybody else do exactly the same but with something else other than chilli?

Any suggestions welcome, thank you in advance.

It must be already made, just ready to heat up.

ReeseWitherfork · 13/08/2021 07:55

A curry? Serve with naans?

ivykaty44 · 13/08/2021 07:56

I make pasta pesto add cherry tomatoes and tinned sweet corn

Chickpea curry and cous cous, make up any chickpea curry before and soak cous cous on arrival

AmberRoseGold · 13/08/2021 07:57

Curry, sausage casserole, beef stew & dumplings. could prob even do lamb shanks. My friend does a sort of mess of cooked pasta, sauce and already cooked meatballs. Tastes good, looks terrible.

Penny31 · 13/08/2021 07:57

Bolognese
Hot dogs
Meatballs in sauce
Curry
Pasta
Soup
Tinned veg

Fajitas

QuentinBunbury · 13/08/2021 07:58

Buy a can of geo Dahl curry, add a sachet of precooked rice yum
I have a steamer on my saucepan, make pasta with carrots and broccoli in the steamer, then add pesto

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2021 08:00

Tortellini, just add pesto and grated cheese.

Macaroni cheese

Bolognaisse sauce - either with cooked pasta already in it, or cooked earlier/later/in a different pan (I sometime bring in cooked from home, and mix it into hot bolognaisse and let this heat warm it up).

Curry and popadoms

Beef stew and boil in the bag rice/smash

You can make pasta, make the sauce (or jar) then add the pasta to cook in the sauce. If you can find orzo that would work very well.

gnocchi- fry if first then add veggies, sauce.

Also couscous would be great, you can buy flavoured packets just add water and heat.

Stew eaten with crusty bread
Pulled pork or a similar beef recipe cooked in the slow cooker before we go then reheated and served with wraps or tortilla bowls,
Curry with naan or even some packet rice cooked quickly once the curry is hot.

LemonRoses · 13/08/2021 08:06

Most things you cook in an oven or stove top.

Bolognese
Sweet and sour
Curry
Beef or chicken stew and dumplings
Ratatouille on pasta
Thai curry
Risotto
Soup and bread
Jambalaya

profpoopsnagle · 13/08/2021 08:07

Mussels and crusty bread also work well.

IncognitoMucho · 13/08/2021 08:13

Meatballs are a good option , and so is bolognese sauce and already cooked pasta to throw in.

Good ideas, thank you all 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

We would cook eg the carbs and then the sauce which has the advantage that dinner is cool enough to eat and you can do more stuff

PattyPan · 13/08/2021 08:38

We do this gnocchi with a ready made sauce like one of those stir through sauces or pesto

@profpoopsnagle

Mussels and crusty bread also work well.
I would do mussels in a heartbeat, but dh is allergic to them unfortunately. Maybe I need to go solo camping …. 🤔

JustMarriedBecca · 17/08/2021 22:41

Jamie Oliver's mango chutney curry
Meatballs
Fahitas
Spag bol

I need more ideas so following with interest

Nyancat · 18/08/2021 21:44

Curry with chickpea, sweet potato, butternut squash and potato. Carb already in it so no need for rice then I throw in some spinach when heating it up

BiddyPop · 20/08/2021 11:20

Rogan josh.
Fry a diced onion, add diced garlic, add other veg as desired (peppers, mushrooms, courgette, French beans, peas, broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, etc a mix that you like), add half a small tin sweet corn, add a tin of tuna (if using one in oil, you can use the oil for the initial frying), add in 3 tablespoons of mild curry powder and stir well, then add a pack of instant microwave rice and stir well, ready once rice is thoroughly heated through. Could also add some cooked chicken or prawns if you have those (less likely when camping but this is a great "use up small amounts of lots of stuff and storecupboard ingredients" type dinner at home too).

Fry bacon lardons (I use Lidl ones, and can throw into dry pan to use the bacon fat that melts out for rest of frying), (diced onion and/or garlic), diced mushrooms, set aside in bowl. Cook pasta, drain, toss bowl back in and either add jar of Bertolli pesto Rossa or a mix of double cream and an egg whisked together for the sauce. (Could cook pasta first and set aside, but other ingredients reheat faster when they are mixed, cover bowl with foil and wrap in a towel to preserve heat if you want).

Spanish style omelette filled with chicken or ham or chorizo, veggies and cheese.

Buy a hot rotisserie chicken and crunchy French stick/nice sourdough from deli at teatime, enjoy with salad.

Do you have access to a bbq or fire, even one use bbq grills can be useful to grill meat and also do veg etc in foil parcels or on skewers.

purplesequins · 20/08/2021 11:23

it's the law to have ravioli at least once when camping isn't it.Wink

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 20/08/2021 11:44

My specialist subject!
I think meatballs and raviolli are already mentioned.
I also often do paella
Jambalaya
Chicken tagine (use Jamie's cous cous packet stuff)
Butter chicken with naan breads
Stir fry and in wok noodles
Sausages "casserole" (part boil new pots, then brown sausages and chuck some jarred tomato sauce over it, chuck potatoes in and cook together)
Black bean and sweet potato curry

To be honest I'm quite organised and plan all our meals. I use bbc good food and Delia and save recipes for inspiration. I also pre chop any veg that I use and take all spices pre measured! I'm a bit sad.

deedeemegadoodoo · 21/08/2021 14:26

M&S do some really nice tinned meals. We use those. Chicken casserole, bolognese etc.
