Glamping in Scotland August, what to pack

It’s only for a few days so won’t be taking too much, weather looks dry but you never know!

We’ll be taking light rain macs. Hoodies, t-shirts. DH seems to live in his shorts (cotton) no matter the weather, like ds, although his are more football type ones. I’m always in skinny jeans like DD. We’ll be taking joggers too though for comfort! And trainers. Think that’s covered the clothes. Unless it’s going to be unbearably hot, I don’t think we’ll need swimming gear! I’m more inclined to pack for fine weather, perhaps a bit breezy! I do tend to feel cold more than others.

Thinking of getting walking boots? Is this a good idea, we are planning on going on some walks.

Shorts aren’t the best idea on walks as lots of Scotland has a tick population infected with Lyme Disease.

There has been apocalyptic rain in most parts of Scotland the last couple of weeks. You’ll need more than a light rain mac.

Midge repellent if you’re doing West Coast/Highlands.

Is take some more warm clothing, especially for at night. Re. boots - unless you're planning on serious hillwalking, you can stick to sturdy trainers.
Midge repellent/net.

sleepyhead · 11/08/2021 12:59

Wellies - something easy to pull on for wet days. Waterproof walking boots are great, but sometimes you can't beat wellies for easyness.

The only people I know who have had ticks had trousers on anyway so shorts are fine, just do a regular tick check.

Letsrunabath · 11/08/2021 13:00

Don’t get new walking boots, you need to break them in and if you wear them on your holiday you may end up with blisters.

Take swimming gear, it doesn’t take up much room and you may be surprised and want to get in the water when you see others in. Enter slowly though and you are at less risk of cold water shock.

helpfulperson · 11/08/2021 13:01

Thermals and a hot water bottle.

Palavah · 11/08/2021 13:02

Midge repellent
Cosy stuff for evening
Def hiking boots and appropriate socks
Swimmers
Eye mask - it still gets light pretty early/late

harryandmarv · 11/08/2021 13:04

Thanks everyone, hadn’t thought about midge repellent!

We’ll be around the Fife area if that makes any difference.

Midgey spray
Midgey spray
Midgey spray
Midgey spray
Midgey spray.

Everything else is optional.

thedevilinablackdress · 11/08/2021 13:15

Fife isn't generally too midgey so you may be ok.

BeefSupreme · 11/08/2021 13:19

Wetsuit and flippers

Northernlurker · 11/08/2021 13:19

You want layers basically. We are on the west coast currently. So t shirts and at least one warm hoodie plus a lighter cardie or hoodie. Robust walking trainers will do for what you want rather than full on boots. Defo swimming gear, lots of towels inc quick dry and sandals for beaches. There are some stunning beaches on the east coast.

harryandmarv · 11/08/2021 13:37

BeefSupreme - Ha ha

And I wouldn't even have to fart to look like this in a wet suit Grin

Get some camping towels. They take hardly any room compared to normal ones and they take no time to dry. Also river shoes. We got ours off eBay £6-10

BeaBeaBuzz · 11/08/2021 13:44

Sun cream
Mode spray
Waterproofs
Sun hats
Canoe
Good walking boots
Wellies
Jumpers

Basically be prepared for any weather eventuality

BeaBeaBuzz · 11/08/2021 13:44

Midge spray not mode spray

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/08/2021 16:01

We're just home from a week in fife. Didn't see any midges, we wore shorts some days, jeans and joggers others. We wore t shirts every day, occasionally threw a hoodie on top and a light rain jacket was sufficient. Have fun!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/08/2021 16:02

We all have walking shoes already so took those and also took trainers
