Is it possible to camp without loads of night time noise?

I am on a holiday park, but even so its SO noisy. I've stayed in caravans in similar places and never noticed it. Is it to be expected? The DC are knackered but can't get to sleep.

@ImFree2doasiwant

I'm not keen on earplugs , I like to be able to hear my own children.
I'm quite happy to leave that to my DP when camping!

We are in a campsite in Wales and there are signs everywhere about not making noise after 10pm. That usually means no music or loud chatting or kids playing out.

A couple of nights ago we were talking quietly ( we try to be considerate campers!) in the awning over a glass of wine at 10:30 and the warden knocked and more or less told us it was bedtime. We were mortified.

Tonight you can't hear anything over the sound of the wind and the rain anyway!

Angels I think we stayed at the same site! A few years ago DP and I got into trouble for playing cards and having a small Baileys in our tent at 10pm, we weren’t being noisy but the owner knocked on our tent and told us to go to bed! In comparison West Wittering campsite free for all, I went for a wee at 3am and most people were still awake having parties, kids (little kids) were hanging off the climbing frame in the playground shouting, fucking horrendous place.

It all depends what age kids you have I think! We went camping loads when kids were younger and thought nothing of kids being up at 7 playing football etc but now they are teenagers we all love a lie in on holiday so camping out for us, plus the crazy sunrise which wakes u all up at silly o clock!

Campsites with ‘entertainment’ of any sort usually means lots of noise! We paid £250 per night for a very basic cabin on a golf resort and the blokes in the cabin next to us were chanting ‘get your tits out’ at 3am. It sounds silly, but I felt quite intimidated.

We’ve camped in very basic sites - a farm with no electric hook up for example, and it’s been hushed whispers in the evening and silence from 10pm.

Agree with MazDazzle basic is the way to go.

I look for sites with a toilet block, bbq allowed, no single sex groups and never had a problem. I (used to & hope to again) go to festivals. There I am a party person and don’t expect a 9pm curfew. At a campsite it’s ‘sun down shut up’ as far as I’m concerned. If the adults are quietly chatting over Prosecco after this more power to their drinking elbow but keep it down or share!

White noise ugh no thanks! Id be "knocking" on your tent flap and asking you to turn it off.

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 30/07/2021 20:26

I mean it wasn't loud enough to drown out the sound of next door but one's baby screaming in the night but I take the criticism of the white noise box on board Grin

ImFree2doasiwant · 30/07/2021 20:52

@JanuaryEl5ieBill it definitely wouldn't have been noticed on the site I was on!
