Baby on an air bed when camping ...bad idea?

Is it a ridiculous idea for DS, 3mths,to sleep on an air bed next to me when we next camp? Previously he's been in the Moses basket but has outgrown that now.
Would a carry mat be better/safer? With a sheet or similar over it to minimise sweatiness.
We have a fold out travel cot but it takes up a lot of space - it's more like a playpen so if possible we wouldn't take it.
With Dd she was basket sized for a whole season and was then happy to use an air bed the following year (and jump on it a lot).

We had one of these Kampa Junior Airlock Bumper Airbed https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001W2ICA0/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcXXZB9MBGZR6MFGMSTS9P for DD when she was a toddler (so a bit older than your little one). Stopped her rolling off the bed in the middle of the night.

But if you Google camping cot there are other options that might be more suitable for you.

Have fun!

Def not safe imo. Travel cot or pop up crib thing!!

Babyiskickingmyribs · 12/07/2021 21:03

I wouldn’t. The problem is that the airbed will deflate a little bit overnight and then if she rolls on her front it becomes a suffication risk. Carrymat wouldn’t be an issue (but I find them very uncomfortable to sleep on myself since having my son. I’d bring the travel cot and just out it up at night - it might also be useful outside as a spot to put baby or even your toddler while you set up the tent...

Quick Google says not under 15 months op...

INeedNewShoes · 12/07/2021 21:04

Definitely not safe.

Is your pram carrycot attachment safe for overnight sleeping (it'll state this clearly somewhere in the blurb)? That's what I used for DD up to about 6m.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 12/07/2021 21:05

Sorry I misread, I thought your DS 3months was a DD. Please ignore all the mismatched pronouns...

Presumably no room for a travel cot?

Please don’t call social services but we used a supermarket delivery box years ago (the stacking, low sided kind with holes) suitably softly mattresses with a garden recliner cushion cut to size. Older baby, 5/6 months. Worked a treat. (Used a smaller box - without holes Grin - for bathing, equally successful.

my (then) 3mo slept in this when we went camping. kept her high off the ground, very light, folded into nothing and we could move it easily outside during the day etc. recommend!

Thanks all! @Babyiskickingmyribs yes of course you're right about the deflating - he's done the occasional roll already so the air bed is a big no for now.
He's getting a mat, unless we can fit the carry cot in. He falls asleep on the floor while playing so this should be ok.

i also have this, which my (then) 7mo slept in when we were camping and i also use it when we are away for the night (he slept in it camping last year at 20mo and still uses it now at 2.5years). it's suitable from birth.

@MrsSkylerWhite that is an excellent idea! Maybe I can find a bread crate, it could double as the kitchen box when packing?

I do like the specific camping travel cots though, the Little Life has always been good value
