Bunk beds or fixed double?

Currently looking at upgrading our two berth due to addition of dd2. Previously dd1 was in travel cot. I thought I was set on fixed end bedroom with double bed, then separate double in lounge area.

But....yesterday I looked at a coachman with lounge area which converts to double, middle bathroom, fixed end bunks and a seating area which could convert to more bunks.

What do you think? Children are 2 and six months. Was going to stick them in double together eventually but now wondering if I do bottom bunk and cot, moving to bunks and small play seating area?

I would personally go for fixed bunk beds over a fixed double. Kids can then go to sleep (or rest) and grown ups have a lounge area before they go to bed. You can also use bunk beds as storage in the day, and I think it would feel darker/cosier than a shared fixed double. As they get older, they can have a reading light and little curtains etc.

Thank you. Yeah I was really taken with the fixed bunks and had not considered that layout before. I think I had in my head they could snuggle in for naps together or with me but the reality is very different!

We have a tourer with fixed bunks it’s much better than a double as they have their own space and not constantly kicking each other! Our layout is slightly different to your description, the fixed bunks are at the back along with the shower room. The second seating area that converts to bunks is in the middle opposite the kitchen. I much prefer this as it makes the living area feel much more open. Plus there are 5 of us and we can spread out a bit more while we’re eating. It’s a Lunar by the way.

Leaning towards the bunks. The seating area opposite the bunks converts to more which I won't need just now but gives me space for cot. Thank you.

We have fixed bunks since our kids were 5 & 3.

We were a bit concerned about children falling out of the bunks as there was a big gap on the bottom bunk. So you might want to consider that as your children are much younger.

We've just got rid of our caravan as the children have outgrown it (13 and 11) but we had bunks for them and a double (converted lounge furniture) for us. I wouldn't put them in a double as long term they'll likely squabble about their 'half' and it'll cause all sorts of friction. Or maybe that's just my two!
