Campsites on / near a beach?

Finally decided to cancel our rollover 2019 holiday again Sad so now looking for a lovely campsite instead.

Kids are 8 and 6 so play parks and a pool would be great, I HATE entertainment but they love it so guess that needs to be on the list Grin then on or very very near a beach would be the main draw.

We're in the East Mids so Norfolk is good, North Devon is possible, South cost definitely doable - but Kent / West Wales / Cornwall are probably pushing it. Don't like to be too far in case of torrential weather and needing to bug out (not done it yet but you never know!).

Couple of nice campsites spring to mind.....though due to knowing location rather than actually using them....
Freshwater Caravan Park in Burton Bradstock, near Bridport, Dorset. Has pool but beach is lovely but not that safe for swimming. (Better going to safe beach at West Bay.)
There’s a Haven at West Bay with pool but not so nice.
Lovely campsite at Eype nearby.
I’ve also heard there’s a lovely campsite at Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door a bit further up the coast past Weymouth. Lovely area with lots to do and see. Corfe Castle, Monkey World, Tank Museum , Studland beach, Swanage etc

Stubscroft farm campsite near West Wittering in Sussex is really good, we've been there several times (pre covid).

Teddy1970 · 07/06/2021 07:29

I meant to say that the campsite is actually in East Wittering but obviously close to West Wittering!

Thanks so much but struggling with availability (obviously!!). Bumping in case anyone else has any suggestions??

Eweleaze Farm in Dorset is amazing. On a cliff top with private beach (steps down from the site). It's only been open in August in the past (it's a working farm) but I think I read they're opening for longer, not sure though. It's fantastic and well worth a look.

When do you plan to go? Do you mean bringing your own tent type campsite to a field, or caravan, motorhome or using an onsite van where they have more facilities?

Friend is travelling around with their own tent and use a website to narrow down their specifics- toilets onsite, accept dogs, accept marquees etc. Not sure of the name, but worth looking into that. I was going to suggest Suffolk, but not 100% sure of your requirements.

We're trying to find a spot for a tent (our own) in August. We are flexible on dates a bit as we've got 2 weeks leave booked but only want 7-9 nights.

Great will look into that one!

We've got one option in Dawlish which is an all singing all dancing style holiday park (bit too much for me but kids would love it) but its insanely expensive £800 to camp in our own tent!!

We stayed at forest park in Cromer several years ago. We went off season when kids were v young so not sure what the entertainment is like. It was short drive or about 30 min walk to the beach. There was a little road train that went from the town/beach to the campsite which the kids lived.

We just got back from Nodes Point on the Isle of Wight. It's right next to 2 beaches, has a pool and entertainment and there's lots to do on the island.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/06/2021 23:20

Just in case anyone else is after ideas, we've booked!! Bay View Farm in North Devon. Availability was an absolute bastard so we're pleased we've found something. Looks lovely fingers crossed!

In Croyde? A lovely site. You can also pay to use the indoor pool at Ruda holiday park around the corner if you fancy a day off the beach, Croyde is really beautiful and still unspoilt in lots of ways. Walk to Baggy point while you are there, it's stunning.

FusionChefGeoff · 10/06/2021 23:53

Unfortunately it was too good to be true and they didn't have availability after all Angry got an email the next day.

So literally the only option left was Lady's Mile in Dawlish. It was crazy money for a week in our own flipping tent but it's booked (hopefully!) and we will be heading back to the other one definitely
