Wi-fi/internet access in a static caravan- what do you use?

We have a static on a holiday park that has no Wi-fi. We currently just use our phones as there’s a great 4g signal but I’d like to be able to use my laptop for work and study and I just don’t have enough data to tether to the hotspot on my phone. What other options are open to me?

I can’t get an unlimited data option on my contract so that’s ruled out. I can get a Mi-Fi router which will give 4g access with unlimited data to any device which seems fine for what I’m wanting. But are there other solutions that are better? (There’s no phone line so landline broadband isn’t an option. )

Apart from satellite broadband, which is very expensive, I don't think that you have any alternative other than 3/4G

We use 4g on a PAYG data sim. Unfortunately, the signal is so weak that it's not detectable on a phone. My husband has cobbled together a system with a huge aerial so we can get connected.

Thanks @Bwlch, I agree that satellite is prohibitively expensive. 4g it is!

We have a Huawei e5785 wifi hotspot which we use in our ‘racevan’, there are two versions of this hotspot, one (2017) version which has antenna points so you can connect an aerial, and one (2020) version which does not have the antenna points. The device is brilliant on its own so an antenna may not be necessary if the 4g is good, however we bought the ‘Alda PQ’ antenna from Amazon together with two TS9 male to female connectors to link them up and this gives us better reception in really remote areas. I use it with a giffgaff or smarty sim which both are both good value.

I would recommend Giffgaff as good value, as long as you keep a small balance on the SIM and use it to at least receive a phone call every 6 months the SIM will stay active. You only need to buy the amount of data you feel you need by purchasing "goody bags". There is a range of prices for the amount of data available and you can pick what you think you need depending on how long you are likely to spend in your van. The goody bags are valid for 1 month and you don't need to buy one every month.

I found the Huawei hotspot devices more than adequate and that allows you both your phones and the hotspot which should be more than enough data.
