Heading abroad with your tent...

Hello!

So we have done a few camping trips in the uk. It is fair to say we have caught the bug and absolutely love it as a family. We are now considering trying camping abroad next year, all been well on the covid 19 front anyway.
We are thinking france or maybe spain. We would be driving/eurotunnel/ferry depending on where we go.
We are wondering if anyone has any tips for a good holiday abroad in your tent and if anyone has any recommendations of site. We like quieter sites in general but while abroad would like a pool etc

Thanks in advance

Not quite what you asked for as it's in Germany, but this site has everything you want! They are incredibly family friendly, access to a lovely pool, little shop and restaurant on site. Town centre with more eating options is a 10 minute walk... and to top it off you will be given a "tourist ticket" (inc. In the price) for free public transport!

PS it's about a 9-10 hour drive from Calais...

Love camping abroad. DS and I have done it for the last 10 years. Last year we drove to Norway and camped there!!

We've always booked our main site - we have found it's quieter at the end of August. We've used Yelloh camping a lot. Always taken our power cables with us.

If you are hoping for a site on the way down, start looking about 3 - 4pm. It can take some time to find a place. We usually have the first and last night in a Premiere Classe.

The driving can be long. We usually break it up - as it's just me driving.

I see you are in Yorkshire - so are we.

Usually we leave early in the morning, get a lunchtime ferry / train over, drive a few hours and then stop.

Next day a long drive. Stop
Then 3rd day, we get there.

Some people might do Day 2 as a very long day and get there.

We went to www.camping-plageetmer.com/ near Beziers 2 years ago. Good value, very French and right on the beach

We were able to rent out real fridges - which was a bonus. It can be difficult keeping wine cool..

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm pleased to know it can be done and enjoyable!
I've been looking at different campsites etc seems lots arent available to book until October so gives me some more thinking time.
We are thinking Aug at some point so good to know it gets quiet late Aug.
