HELP!!! Damp caravan

Hello all I am after some advice please.
We have a 2006 Bailey ranger that we took out last year just before the end of the season. Whilst we were reversing onto our pitch we hit a tree. We checked for damage but couldn't see anything obvious so enjoyed our break and then dropped the caravan off into winter storage.
And then of course lock down happened so we've only been able to get to the van this week.
Unfortunately when I checked the van I noticed we had damp in the bathroom so called a mechanic to come and have a look, he's been today and said where we've hit the tree we've caused 2 cracks and that's where the water is getting in. He said we are looking at a couple of grand to fix it and get it back to a good state of repair eak!!! Anyhow I've phoned my insurance company and they said it could be something they would cover as it could be classed as accidental damage. What's people's thoughts on our chances of getting the insurance to pay out??? If not we're screwed and that could be the end of our lovely mini breaks

No one can add anything to the "maybe" you've had from your insurer. That they didn't outright refuse it is a positive sign.

Have you read your caravan insurance policy schedule to see what it says about accidental damage?

Depending on the size of the crack, it sounds like it could easily be repaired with fibreglass or similar. I'd try a car body shop to see what they say. Given that you didn't notice any cracks to start with, they can't be very large.
