SIM's

So I've got a tent and DC & I have a couple of campsites booked. I need to get a few bits including 2 sleeping bags and 2 sleeping mats.

I see SIM's are recommended here (over air beds) and I've realised I will need to spend a bit on one for me. But the prices vary so much and I'm wondering if the quality varies hugely. I'd like to spend enough so it is comfy and lasts as I don't want to do disposable/cheap camping kit.

We have the Outwell Dreamcatcher 10cm ones and would definitely recommend them. Neither DH nor I are 'lightweights' but we both get a really good night's sleep. We have 2x singles though rather than sharing a double mat.

Thanks Romaine.
They are an investment- but I'm quite big and getting old so I need to get something comfy.

ah actually the Dreamcatchers aren't too bad proce wise - I was thinking of the Dreamboat which is probably a bit outside my budget.

Confusing names!

@TheClitterati - I keep looking at (and dreaming of) the Dreamboat SIMs but spending nearly £800 on mattresses that we use for 4-5 weekends a year is too much. Just need that lottery win... Smile

Depends on what type of camping you enjoy, and how much space you have to transport gear. Some of the luxurious 10cm ones are really heavy and take up a lot of room. Also, depending on your body type and sleeping position, you may find a thinner one just as comfy - side sleepers will need thicker than front or back.

If you can, go into a Decathlon and check out their inflatable "frames" - it's raised off the floor and you put a SIM on top and secure with elastic straps.

I only have a VW Polo so not a lot of room. We are working out minimal but comfy camping kit.

I should be able to get to a Decathlon on the weekend - they look like they have a good range of camping kit there.

I found a 10cm Outwell Dreamcatcher for £66 so I have gone with that. I do tend to be a side sleeper so will need the 10cm. need to get cheaper mat for dd now.

We have vango shangri-la 10cm and love them. The 15cm is supposed to be better but they are huge

I'm a side sleeper and had an Exped 10cm - it was fine was too narrow so I've upgraded to the Exped Megamat Max which is 15cm deep and 75cm wide. It's lovely!

Picked up 3rd SIM for dd2, from decathlon yesterday.

Glad you found something. Both Outwell and vango do good ones. We have 10cm for us and 5cm for the kids 😀
