hi. i'm considering camping next summer. actually, a mobile home with A/C might be more me, tbh.

has anyone been to a good site in italy, not toonoisy, which might appeal to a family with dds aged 4 and 6?

have had a brief look at keycamps, but am baffled by the range of accommodation. can anyone tell me, which is the best type of mobile home and if the clubs (leo's funstation, or similar) are any good?

have camped in the uk a couple of times recently and found the lack of space/privacy on one site really annoying...so, would be esp glad to hear of any sites which have a private-ish area around each pitch.

not asking for much, am ??

tia

Not sure how helpful this will be...

We camped (under canvas) at Europa Silvella on Lake Garda two years ago and found it a bit busy for us. Not much privacy. Site was nice and clean though. Pool was nice. Kids club we didn't use (kids too young) but it looked like they had lots going on.

Canvas we found very hot, although I have headr mobile homes in the heat can be a bit like living in a tin can. If I was doing it again I'd get a mobile with aircon.

ceolas, thats v helpful, actually.

i actually think that an apartment holiday might suit me better, but the camping would be fun for the dcs, and we'd like to go to italy, so camping seems like the obvious holiday choice. (we don't want to rent a villa, as we'd just have to entertain thegirls ourselves all the time)

Check out exactly what is provided kids club wise, often they are run by the park themselves companies like Keycamp etc might do there own aswell.

They are not usually closed in secure creche type facilities, normally open are where kids can come and go, so if younger kids going you will have to stay nearby.

The sites seem to be very quite at night, pitches are usually clearly set out so people stay in boundries.

High summer they will be busy, crowded and very hot. We went in Easter and it was perfect temp wise, but no pool open.

Loads of campsites directly onto Lake Garda, we were able to stroll down to the shore from the caravan, and soempitches right along the front.

i am looking at exactly the same type of holiday near lake garda with similar age kids. someone has told me that the bella italia site on lake garda is good but i am baffled by the range of options. we have always previuosly stayed in pierre et vacances holiday villages in france which actually seem cheaper than some of the mobile home options! any advice would be welcomed...

Noonar - we went to Lake Garda this summer. We flew to Milan with Ryanair(Brescia is nearer), hired a car and drove httphere It was a pretty basic site but had a pool, restaurant, some kid's stuff and you had just a minute walk down to the beach on the lake. We stayed in the basic mobile home (and it was pretty basic!) but their "lux" ones are fab and right on the lake side.

We booked directly with the site and it was so much cheaper than Eurocamp and the like - just short of 1000 euros for the 4 of us for the last two weeks in August (then flights on top)

Oh, that link seems a bit odd. Hang on

Can anyone recommend a Keycamp at lake garda, suitable for a five year old, where he will have other english kids around (He's an only child) and with a nice town/village on the doorstep? We don't want a tent, but one of their mobile home villa things. Would prefer anything with lovely views too and a good restaurant onsite which does breakfast!

girasole · 10/01/2008 21:03

Hi psychologist,
Not technically Keycamp, but Canvas Holidays (much the same, UK company) have a site in their brochure called Camping Eden which is listed as one of their top ten sites so likely to be plenty of english speaking kids around. Haven't been myself but it looks beautiful in photos, amazing views. They have mobile homes and a kids club on that site too.
Details here

Not sure if you'll be able to find a site in Italy with a restaurant that does breakfasts, but the onsite shop will most likely do freshly baked bread and croissants etc. every day.

Thanks girasole, will give it a look.
