We have a trailer tent and I love it. If you just want it to sleep in, takes 5 min to put up, but the awning on ours does need two people to put up as its huge.
If it wasn't the three of us and the dogs, I'd look at a Camplet as they look so easy to put up

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2019 19:59

I should have said what we have! Its a Trigano Galleon, but we previously had a Trigano Randger. Both of them we bought on ebay, and the Randger we sold on for the same as it cost us

Oh wow I googled complex and watched a video - amazing!!

I think my (very embryo) plans have changed and possible a camper van/car thingie might be better - but maybe next year!

I can see me sleeping in the back of my car this year Sad

When we where looking at caravans I fell in love with these

Really really nice and maintain there value. Ended up going for a bigger cheaper one as we wanted to make sure we used it a lot before we brought one. Please to say that we do but since it's three of us and the dog and we need a loo it might be too small for us.

They are so cute!

I have a mad idea1

I help out at a mending table once a month and I remake/upcycle clothing

So I plan to go round markets/festivals selling and sewing/teaching mending (for free as a sort of positive contribution to climate change/slow fashion) - so I need a lightweight non-electric sewing machine and a way to transport it all!!

the most likely (2020) is a trailer and me sleeping in the car but if it works next year I'll get a mini camper van/dayvan

Firstly find some one who will take you for a drive with large trailer / caravan.
This sort of place
www.balaschoolofmotoring.co.uk/trailer%20training.htm

If you feel ok to tow then check what your car will tow and the cost of a tow bar as some are big money, some cars can't tow anything.
Check your licence allows you to two.
Look for a small two berth but do your home work especially looking for leaks and damp.
We felt a caravan is better as you can heat it easily, we went away all year around in ours.
A Camper van / day van won't be as cheap as a caravan, we bough a tatty caravan for £100 fixed it up and went away a few times whilst we saved up for a better one, next was a day van towing a caravan, now we have a motor home but as the kids are bigger hardly use it.

KatyMac · 24/12/2019 20:39

I have 2 people prepared to teach me
I have a towbar, the car can tow 1.1 tonnes and my license is very old - so I should be fine

I drove a motor home (7m) for 6 months so I'm used to travelling

But it can't be a caravan it has to be a trailer and who knows where I'll sleep!!

Have look on Pinterest, lots of trailers converted to campers, you could have a fold away bed in the trailer

KatyMac · 25/12/2019 12:41

That could work - but it might be full of rAils of clothes? I dunno the whole plan might not work:happen

I have seen caravans with a roller shutter door added the end so people could sleep in it but also used it to transport motor bikes, could you not fit out a caravan with clothes rails?

KatyMac · 26/12/2019 09:35

As always money is the issue

Hence the sleeping in the back of the car!!

You should be able to find a cheap cosmetically tatty caravan that could if you are handy at DIY be made to serve both purposes

KatyMac · 27/12/2019 09:55

That's not likely either - sadly I have the DIY skills of Frank Spencer Sad

My brother is looking at a treadle sewing machine that is somehow on a rail and rotates out onto a trolley and can be pushed to where it need to be

I dunno I need a miracle I think

Its so difficult if you are no good at DIY it can save you a fortune.
Day van might be the best option, Mazda Bongos are excellent and cheap

KatyMac · 27/12/2019 11:36

Yes but I need to work out if what I'm planning is even a good idea I think

It's hard to know if what you want to do is a 'good idea' or what you just want to be a good idea (if you see what I mean - so many variables

OP posts:
Funf · 27/12/2019 12:01

I understand its about having the money and time to bite the bullet and try your ideas, good luck

KatyMac · 27/12/2019 12:11

I have grand design ideas & money for nothing budgets!

I'll keep thinking - I do think a trailer might be the first buy and the upgraded next year

You can pick up a Dandy Dart that needs work for fairly cheap... I sold mine for £300 last Summer. It was fine, mostly. Completely usable, pretty spacious. I could pitch on my own (slowly and with a lot of swearing).
Easy to tow. No need to dry out if you packed away when it was raining.
