Hi all, I’m looking at booking a motor home for 3/4 nights in the summer with Dh and two kids 3 & 7.

I’d love to see wales in its glory so would love some advice where to go so I can sort out an itinerary.

We’d love to

Stay the night by some lovely beaches
Stay the night in a forest
Go canoeing
Visit some traditional harbours
Visit snowdonia

I’ve no idea where to start as we normally holiday Dubai and menorca Grin

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If you want see Snowdon you'll need to base yourselves in the North. Canoeing at Lake Bala, beaches on Lleyn peninsula or Angelsey . Some great harbours on Lleyn. Depending where you're coming from you could follow coast up past Aberystwyth and stop off at lots of beaches on the way

Thank you granny!

Book a pitch at Aberafon campsite for your coastal stay. The view is amazing and you can’t get any nearer to the sea. It’s a small, uncommercial site with enough to keep the kids occupied whatever the weather. There is a tiny, partly sandy, wild beach full of rockpools to explore and a little stream by the amenities block where the children played when they weren’t on the climbing frame and slide. There’s also an undercover games room and onsite shop for essentials. In the peak season, the an ice cream van visits too!

Stay at Lyn Gwynant in the heart of Snowdonia for a family canoeing trip. gwynant.com/activities/adventure-activities/

I’d recommend Beddgelert for your forest stay. There’s a really old fashioned train station right at the campsite which is one of the stops for the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. With a day ticket you have unlimited access to hop off and back on again at various points along the track. Timetables are available at the station or from reception. You could take a trip to Caernarfon or to Porthmadog through the Aberglaslyn Pass. Children under 16 go free. Twice a week there’s a craft session where you can do pottery painting or build and paint a bird house or bird feeder.

Some good routes here
www.donthibernate.co.uk
From The Chester area, M56, A55
The North must see's
Llangollen.
Bala to Barmouth, up the coast towards Harlech, on to the Llyn Peninsular drive around it, Criccieth, Llanbedrog down to Abersoch, back up the other side Whistling sands, More Nefyn, Ty coch inn, towards Caernarfon, Conwy, Llandudno, then inland down the Conwy Valley to Bets y coed, Fairy Glen then Snowdonia.
Should tale 3 days to two weeks depending what you want to fit in.

Or From Shrewsbury, Oswestry, lake Vernwy, Bala etc

Lyn Gwynant, is excellent, but take Migi spray just incase, you can also have a camp fire, part of Tomb Raider was filmed here.
Where are you travelling from? As mentioned above you might pass good places on the way?
Wales has lots of hidden gems

fartyface · 07/03/2020 17:58

Ooh now this is an idea

FreyaMountstuart · 07/03/2020 18:12

Forget the North - head for the Gower and go via Brecon Beacons!

Vintagegoth · 07/03/2020 18:17

Pembrokeshire coast is beautiful

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/03/2020 18:18

Morfa Nefyn

MaidenMotherCrone · 07/03/2020 18:27

Abergele Castle did someone say?

Did you mean Gwrych Castle?

Don't Op, nothing wrong with it but there are far more historically important castles to visit here.

Funf · 07/03/2020 18:55

I feel the big advantage of the North is better transport links and lots of stuff is closer together, but both are excellent
Castles how about 24 in a weekend?
www.donthibernate.co.uk/24-castles-of-north-wales/
I wasn't aware Abergele had a castle only Gwrych?
Fairy Glen is excellent as is the other end up the road behind the Falls Cafe
Info on both here
www.donthibernate.co.uk/24-castles-of-north-wales/
The advantage of the North is if you want busy with Fish, Chips and Bingo it has it but drive two miles down the road and you have secluded campsite etc.
More Nefyn is also excellent as the whole of the Llyn Peninsular is, we have done every beach on the peninsular and they are all different but all good.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/03/2020 18:58

Can you afford any more time?

There are beautiful places in all 4 corners of Wales, as well as in the middle!

Funf · 07/03/2020 18:58

What date? Some events are worth seeing.
victorian-extravaganza.com
This is on at the same time
www.llantransfest.co.uk
Its 40 mins drive from Snowdonia

AndWhatNext · 12/03/2020 23:41

we stayed in the Gower a couple of years ago. Stunning. But very wet and cold (August).
So stunning.

The site was Three Cliffs Bay which was a walk down to the beach, but beautiful. Worms head was incredible. And there was another one with was beautiful too (cannot remember the name).

Lynda07 · 12/03/2020 23:55

Pembrokeshire is lovey.

Lynda07 · 13/03/2020 02:51

I meant 'lovely', not lovey.

AtAt123 · 24/03/2020 22:12

Another giant thumbs up for Lyn Gwynant. It is just beautiful and we all love it. If you get good weather then it's heaven on Earth. Spectacular views, canoe/lake board hire on site, a beach and lake, beautiful river and boat dock and plenty of tree stumps and rope swings for kids to jump off. You can cross the bridge and go see the caves and watch people climb the mountain on the other side of the river too. Mining museum just down the road, betwys y coed the other way, caenarfon in the other direction and dozens and dozens of beautiful sights and waterfalls.
