What clothes to take for 3 night UK trip?

We are going camping next week for 3 nights, 2 adults and 2dc. The weather is predicted to be dry, but around 18 degrees and cloudy.

As we are first time campers I'm just wondering what sort of things we will need clothing wise, also with things like how many towels.

Do you think we will need lots of warm clothes, coat and jumpers? Will ordinary pyjamas be sufficient? Dh thinks we will be ok but I don't want us all getting freezing in the middle of the night.

Thermals for under long sleeved pyjamas and consider a hot water bottle each or stick yours in the kids sleeping bags to warm them up then use them yourself. It will be cold at night. I normally go for 2 t-shirts, 2 jumpers/sweaters/cardigans, 2 shorts, 2 trousers etc plus what you wear down there. Waterproof coat, sliders or crocs, possibly wellies. Waterproof trousers if you have them, Layers will be better.

For the towels, remember to pack some clothes pegs to hang them up to dry. Small towels and tea towels can go on the guy lines but you might want to construct some sort of washing line with spare cord. (You can google the knots required for this)

Ignore your husband. It will be cold so pack accordingly. "It will be ok" is fine for him but not the kids. Grin

Have fun, it will be amazing!

We don't take towels. We take drying towels you'd use on your car! They're so good for drying you and take up less room too.

Yes, it will get cold at night, especially heading into September. I'd take winter weight pyjamas and vests for underneath. I would wear a thin sweatshirt as well but then I'm really cold blooded.
Jeans, jumpers and warm socks for the evenings, and blankets. If you have a campfire it makes a difference but have plenty of clothes still.

Me and wife are both "warm" people but we always make sure we have a couple of spare blankets.

Layers as stated before is the way forward. Good warm socks, and don't be afraid if you are cold in bed to wear a hat - only had to do this once but was -2 and a bitter wind blowing.

Put Pj's on under clothes before you get in bed so you aren't having to warm pj's and the bed.

If sleeping on airbed put a blanket or picnic mat under it to insulate it from the ground.

It feels great to wake up when there is a nip in the air, love making my first cuppa (normally pre 6am when camping) and sitting wrapped in a blanket whilst savouring it.

Hope you have a great time and it leads to many more camping trips for you.

Layers. Lots of layers.

Unless you’re in the Med in August, it is ALWAYS colder at night in a tent (and nipping to and from he loos!) than you think it’s going to be.

I like a hoody for the evenings, and we always end up getting our car blankets out (cheapo snuggly plush blankets from Wilko) for an extra layer round the campfire.
