Airbeds!

We camp 1-3 times a year so not frequently. I’m fed up with buying airbeds at £30 a pop, or whatever, I don’t have a lot of shopping around time only for them to deflate within one or two uses.

I’m thinking about one of the big high up airbeds, around £70, but worried they might go down as well. I have to get something off Amazon in the next day or two....

Help!

Deflate is the wrong word : I mean get punctured

How / why do they get punctured?

I prefer SIMS to airbeds anyway, but it is personal choice.

Thanks -I don’t know why: poor qualities think!

What’s a SIMS?

SIMS are self-inflating mats which don’t take up much room when deflated. We have had Outwell Dreamcatchers for several years and they have been excellent. They come in single and double sizes. Get the 10cm thick ones if you can as they provide a little more support and comfort than thinner ones. Having said that, 2 of ours are 7.5cm thick and they have been great. We place ours on top of 2 x single Outwell folding camp beds and share a duvet between us (we pack this in a vacuum storage bag so takes up little room in the car). I had an accident not long before we went on our 2 week summer camping trip some years ago and couldn’t get myself off the floor to upright. Rather than cancel the trip we invested in the campbeds and we have loved this sleeping arrangement ever since. Our children sleep on SIMS with duvets without campbeds and get a very good night’s sleep.

I would second the Outwell Dreamcatcher 10cm SIMs.

We 'upgraded from airbeds a few years ago and sleep much better - no bouncing around every time you turn over or the faff of blowing them up only for them to have deflated in the morning.

Expensive, but if you're replacing airbeds regularly they'll pay for themselves quite quickly.

second vote for sims.
much warmer from the bottom as well compared to an airbed.
and NO DEFLATING.

Decathlon inflatable air bed frame with 12cm sim on top has been a game changer for me - more comfy than my bed at home!

I use an air mattress. Thermarest Neo Air. About £160. Best investment I ever made. It's backpacking size, is that what you meant? Otherwise I have a full height aero bed that I use at home. Cost about £200 for a double. Great for unexpected house guests!

Thanks all for your messages. I’ve gone for a 10cm SIMS. Fingers crossed it’ll be better: DH is on an airbed so he’ll have to put up with the deflation Smile
