Leaving the tent inner out when it’s hot

I’m camping this week with my 2 DDs, have a 4 man vango tent. I’m thinking about not putting the inner in and just sleeping under the outer (on a proper groundsheet). Would that work? I’m thinking it’s going to be extremely sweaty in the inner.... Different tent/not going not an option, and I don’t really want to sleep under the stars as too easy for DD (2) to escape.

We have insect repellent.

Can anything get in under the tent (ie is it a sewn in groundsheet?) As we has RATS come into the outer tent one night. In a campsite 🤢. It would be my only fear in your situation.

Not a sewn in groundsheet. I kind of want air to get in under outer... but RATS-no!

I would be more inclined to keep the inner in but all the doors open, just with the mesh doors zipped shut.

Can you position your tent in shade?

It will be incredibly hot in the tent during the day but keep any breeze going through and it should cool down in the evening.

If you take the inner out you will have loads of condensation dripping down on you.

Yes I think I will try to pitch in the shade if I can. Tent will get bird poo’ed on no doubt but I think that’s better than cooking!

The temperature should already be dropping right down if the doors are open.

No need to sit in the tent in the daytime.
