Off to France going to be super hot. Have small kids but have a EHU so taking a fan. Any other pearls of wisdom for essentials I should should pack. Small campsite has a pool thank goodness ...

Plant misters of water, spray the air above you and it's very nice, or even damp the inner walls of the tent a bit. Also a nice damp towel over your ankles at night. Take sarongs and dampen them and hang them in doorways/tent front opening. If there is a communal freezer on the campsite freeze the 1.5l bottles of water and use them as cold water bottles wrapped in towels.

During the day a lovely trip to the supermarket over lunchtime followed by using the wifi in the nearest air conditioned McDonalds is a great way to get over the midday heat. Although we time it for 1pm-3pm to escape the worst of it.

Pack hats and loose natural fibre clothes.

Do whatever the Dutch appear to be doing, they are the best campers in the world and are guaranteed to be many on your campsite!

If I think of any more I'll get back to you.

Google QUECHUA ARPENAZ CAMPING FRESH TARP - WHITE and grab a couple, great to create shade on your pitch.

Cover your tent with one of those huge emergency foil space blankets (shiny side up).
Positioning the door of your tent towards the wind will allow it to blow into your tent (remember not to have the loo’s close-by or be downwind of them!!)
If you have a small tent, try to pitch it next to a larger tent but where the shade will be in the afternoon. (most smartphones come with a compass, just remember the sun rises in the east so as you look west from behind the large tent and that’s your spot!).
Eating heavy or spicy food can raise your body temperature and even dehydrate you. Eat little and often.

Definitely take a tarp as you will need something to sit under when by your tent.

We always take large thugs with us. They stack up in the car so take up less room for travelling. The top one has all dc toys, books etc in and sits between them in the car.

When we get to camp we fill one of them with water that can be used to splash ourselves with, stand in, sit next to with feet in or when dc were little they had water pistols!

TRUGS not thugs!!

Canvas tent, absolutely no way I'd be under nylon in this weather. Oh and shady campsite. Amen

Fan isn't going to do anything, save the space

itsboiledeggsagain · 22/07/2019 18:50

Lol at the thugs.
We have one of those tarps as well. It is great

RunsForGummyBears · 22/07/2019 18:51

I know it's not the done thing, but sleeping outside is the best in the summer

Julykthat · 22/07/2019 18:55

We always take large thugs with us

Grin that must be so handy but I hope you bring a separate tent for them!

Agree with the emergency blankets - made a noticeable difference camping in 40+.
