DP, DS (20mo) and I (and DPs extended family) are going camping for the first time this weekend. I'm actually meeting them later off the train as I have to work so it's safe to say I'm nervous about packing not enough/too much and if I'm forgetting anything totally obvious or something I wouldn't have thought of.

I have googled extensively and read lots of good articles but if any of you veteran campers have any good tips or things to bring, especially food for toddler DS, then I'd be so grateful.

Here's my list-

4 packs of wipes???? Shock for a weekend? One should be enough.

Crockery/ cutlery?
Cooking utensils?
Stove / bbq?
Table?
Coat and hats
Matches, fire lighters

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 09/07/2019 20:49

What are you sleeping on? Are the sleeping mats, SIMS?

Bloomburger · 09/07/2019 20:49

Reservation at a hotel maybe 😉

RezCowgirl · 09/07/2019 20:51

Any cooking equipment to make the tea? Kettle/spoons/cooker/gas/cups ?

Pegs and cloths/tea towels always handy too.

Wolfiefan · 09/07/2019 20:52

Mallet for tent pegs?
I wouldn’t want to just sleep on yoga mats.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 09/07/2019 20:53

Batteries
Chargers
Washing up bowl/liquid/cloths/towels
Shower towels
Hot water bottle
Flip flops for shower

Summertimeatthebeach · 09/07/2019 20:54

Cheap buggy!! Your dc will be using it as a highchair!

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2019 20:54

Thermos flask - always have some hot water available before you turn off the stove
I like 2 chopping boards. One for raw meat. One for everything else
A bucket for midnight wees

profpoopsnagle · 09/07/2019 20:55

As well as 1st aid kit I take calpol and piriton just in case.

Wine.

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2019 20:57

20.months? I'd add a waterproof slash suit - the long grass can be very wet with morning dew and toddlers sit down to play regardless.

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2019 20:58

Splash suit (Regatta etc)

Shouldbedoing · 09/07/2019 20:59

Yes buggy as a restraint too when cooking over a naked flame

FertilitySchmertility · 09/07/2019 21:00

Bin liners and normal plastic bags - stuff gets wet.

TheLime · 09/07/2019 21:01

Loads more snacks. Crisps, nuts, cheese and crackers, Marsh, allows, chocolate bars, charcuterie.

Plastic bags for dirty clothes
Bin liners
Washing up stuff
Water

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 09/07/2019 21:03

assuming you have sleeping bags for you and you DP? I just only see one on the list with your child's clothes...

Basic first aid bits - which we keep in a little tub - so calpol sachets, germolene, antiseptic wipes, plasters

wine - and something to drink it from!

hot choc for kids

sharp knife if you're doing cooking

Lairydea · 09/07/2019 21:05

Mallet for tent pegs, air beds and rechargeable pump, buggy, some warm kit for overnight as it gets surprisingly cold - sleeping bag with sleeves on over pjs inside a sleeping bag/duvet?
Bin liners
Cooking stove/utensils

Kallyderon · 09/07/2019 21:09

Food
Something to cook food on
Something to sleep on (yoga mats useless)
Water containers
Toiletries
Flip flops
Waterproofs
Bin bags
Matches
Pack of playing cards

If you must, that is. Personally I'd just book into a hotel rather than travel to a field with a car full of things.

Kahlua4me · 09/07/2019 21:48

Cooker
Saucepans
Sieve
Corkscrew
Plates, cutlery etc
Toys and books for DS
Games to play outside, little football etc

RomaineCalm · 09/07/2019 22:03

Insect repellent?
Cooking stuff, plates, cups, wine, kettle, teabags?

DexterMama · 09/07/2019 22:35

Mallet!! Yes of course- thank you!

As for cooking stuff- DP brother is bring the cooking stuff but I will be adding our own cutlery and plates to the list too.

The sleeping mat things I didn't really explain we'll but hey are basically air mattresses, kinda thin but hoping they'll be okay. Yoga mat is for underneath just to keep the cold away (read that online?).

Wine... well I wish I could partake but I'm 24 weeks pregnant so none for me night remind DP if he wants to bring any beers though.

Bin bags, matches, calpol, splash suit (if I can find it ) will all be added. Oh and tea towel!

What is a SIMS @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat?

Didn't mention but the clothes are just DSs, no idea what I'll take for me as nothing fits properly anymore!

Also WRT buggy.. would you have this as a must? DS is a very strong and keen walker and we're taking our ergobaby 360 (DP will be using it not me obvs) and we'll already be short of space in the car... but would we be stupid to not take the buggy!? Please tell me if so! Cos that'd be one big regret!

I would definitely get something better to sleep on. Camping is fun but if you’re sore and sleep terribly you’ll want to go home at 3am on the first night.

Pack extra blankets, it gets colder than you imagine at night. Fleecy pjs for you all as well.

I would definitely take a small buggy, it’s a godsend to be able to strap a toddler in when you’re trying to cook so they’re not dashing off or sticking their face in a gas stove.

FertilitySchmertility · 09/07/2019 23:34

Have you got a sling or a carrier?

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 10/07/2019 00:28

a SIM is a self inflating mat......you unroll them, they puff up with air then you sleep on them

comfier than blow up air beds, and better at insulating you from the cold

and if you're 24 wks pregnant you definitely need something comfy to sleep on!

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2019 09:20

Top tip get into PJs early and put layers on top. It’ll stop you getting cold before bed.
