I've eventually managed to convince the husband about getting one...but Would like to know if you informed lot would rate one of the more modern ones ( the ones with tent pole like poles? That folds up small?) As opposed to the traditional wooden pole ones?

Would like the smaller one for space saving but not if they are rubbish!

Experiences much appreciated! Thanks

I ditched our metal poles one because more guy lines all over the place was the last thing we needed.

So I prefer poles.

But don’t take one any more.

Steel poled windbreaks are favoured by a lot of campers, caravanners, and motorhome owners. It is usually lighter than the wooden poled ones and the steel poles will have the advantage of being more durable than wooden poles. Steel poled windbreaks usually have guy ropes for additional support against the wind. Guylines may get in the way, so bear that in mind, especially when deciding on size (bigger = more guys). The Royal Leisure Windbreak is a good examples of a steel poled windbreak. It is stylish as far as windbreaks come, and has a clear window panel along the top (to give you a view whilst sheltering you from the wind). It has 6 poles and it’s 130cm high x 750cm long – it also comes with its own storage carrying bag. It's not a quick set-up because the guylines are needed to keep everything stable, but reasonably light (3-4kg) and affordable.

Can't add much save for don't buy the windbreak which Aldi are selling - it's a modern type one. We've just got back from a 2 night trip away and it was compleyely useless - didn't stand up to any wind. It's going back if I can find the receipt as it's completely unfit for purpose. I'm thinking an old style wooden pole one would be better so you can hammer the poles into the ground. Plus everyone who had one of these on the campsite didn't appear to have the problems we had with ours which was that it was more like a sail! You could also attach guy ropes yourself to one of these if needed. I did like the privacy of a windbreak for the two minutes it stayed up for!

We have a Kampa 5 pole aluminium windbreak. Its excellent in the wind. Comes with a clear panel to see out of. Use screw down pegs, they are amazing

We got a beach Aldi one. Proper wooden poles and it's ace. Solid as a freaking rock. But that was a few years ago now.

TheCatDidSay · 03/06/2019 13:51

We use solid wooden ones. Too many ropes with the children otherwise it becomes a spider web to move around the pitch.

ImpossibleNovelty · 03/06/2019 13:54

Second the idea of one with a clear panel to see out of. I want a taller one with a panel. Our current one is a bit low so only really works for me. DH’s head sticks out over the top even went he’s slouched in his chair Smile

We got the wooden ones as we camp in France and needed something that is sturdy to take being hammered into the hard ground.

I hate they don't colour coordinate (to say the least) with my tent and set up but they do a good job and have never fallen over.

We inherited an Outwell one from my parents which is good.
