Another recommend a site post

DH doesn't have long off in the summer so we were planning a short hop to northern France. But then tonight he has thrown a curveball and suggested we stay in the U.K. I don't know why but my initial reaction is no; it doesn't feel like it would be the same kind of holiday (and I know the weather in northern France is nothing to get excited about!!)

So can anyway recommend a site that would offer similar to a French site? We'd normally go for smaller site rather than the huge ones, would prefer no nighttime entertainment, ideally have a pool and play area for the DC (4 & 2). Preferably not Devon or Cornwall because I'm not sure we can be bothered with the traffic. Clean toilets and EHU a must!

Any suggestions?

Clippesby Hall in Norfolk.

Kelling Heath?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Clippesby Hall doesn't have any availability on our dates unfortunately but we'll definitely keep it in mind for the future. And the Isle of Wight is a good shout, we hadn't considered it but it could suit.

Off to look at Kelling Heath, thanks!

How about Jersey as a compromise? We stayed at Rozel Camping - one of the best sites I’ve stayed at - had a lovely small pool. Check with the campsite first before the ferry as they will give you a code to get a better price on the ferry.

The problem is the more likely a site has a pool in the UK, the bigger it tends to be. I would also suggest the Isle of Wight, l haven't been but The Orchard I have seen mentioned a lot.

Callow Top in Derbyshire is somewhere that friends have been to, again, I can't vouch for it.

Are you tied to school holidays? I would recommend the River Dart if you are not, although this is in Devon which you wanted to avoid. It is bog, but there are a few areas that would be quieter.

I love the idea of Jersey! But DH says if we're doing the hours on the ferry we may as well just go to France.

I know the U.K. sites are likely to be big if they have a pool. DH says the pool isn't necessary but I'm not sure. I love camping in the U.K., I really do, but I just feel like it isn't a 'proper' holiday without splashing around in a pool with the kids!

We are tied to the school holidays (I'm a teacher...) so I think at this stage I probably need to just take whatever's left!

We usually go to France but are staying in the UK. Have booked s site in Cornwall despite the long drive. Doesn’t quite have the same anticipation as our usual holiday but we’ll see.

Isle of Wight would be ideal.... loads of sea to splash around in and very pretty beaches. I swear the island has its own weather system too.

I only really know the typical park dean sites over there but there are plenty of other smaller sites.

Thanks. What would it be like in the rain for a week?! Is there much to occupy little ones?

www.ranch.co.uk/ is in the cotswolds.
We stayed in the new forest here www.shorefield.co.uk/holidays/locations/lytton-lawn-touring-park
It was relatively quiet but we could use all the facilities at the nearby bigger Park. I love the new forest and would love to go back.

I know what you mean about staying in the UK though. France makes it feel more like a holiday to me!
