How thick is your SIM?

I’ve been enlightened to the fact that my freezing nights might come to an end with the help of a SIM. I’ve found one on offer for £40 which is 7.5cm thick. Is that decent enough?

I need a decent sleeping bag. Can't bear the mummy style ones as I end up all twisted!
Just bought this www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15908414/silentnight-treknap-500-double-self-inflating-sleeping-mat-15908414 to try for less than half rrp.

Ok I’ve just purchased the 10cm SIM, will take a double duvet to sleep over and under (folded) and a hot water bottle Grin

The whole point about SIMS is that the foam is excellent insulation.

The foam also means that only the heavy / poly bit dips down whereas with a blow up air bed the whole thing dips towards the heaviest point. That gives me dreadful backache.

I have a 7.5Cm SIM and a 1m wide 3 season sleeping bag, sleep in a thin cotton nightshirt, no other blankets etc, and by proper summer, not even a heat wave, will feel hot in bed.

I’ve had pretty bad back issues for a few years (thankfully loads better now) so last year treated myself to a 15 cm vango Shangri la. It is amazing! Downside expensive and bulky. Only have one DC, a large car and roof boxes so can get away with it. Just back from camping and I think we’ve going to have to get one for DH too.

I’ve got a vango 3 season Aurora XL 3 season sleeping bag too which kept me nice and warm last two nights too. DH wants one of those too now...

I gave the Vango Aurora Grande sleeping bag, too. Bulky but I like the 100% cotton lining and the 1m width.

7.5 cm is thick enough to be warm but depends how you sleep as to whether it’s comfortable for back/hips. Make sure you have a good pillow too.
I have a 4 season down sleeping bag but also warm pyjamas and a wool blanket as back up, I’m a very cold sleeper. Our tent isn’t big enough for air beds and duvets.

Should probably be fine. I slept on a 10cm SIM at the end of March in a tent with no additional flooring etc, and was toasty warm. My pillow was freezing mind Grin

We have the double height ones (about 40cm I think?) - duvet over it to make it softer.

Don't get cold at all Grin

A Sim that’s 40cm? I’ve not seen any that big! Do you have a link?

Something that thick would never fold up! Must be an air mattress.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/05/2019 16:41

Yes that’s what I was thinking.

I am v overweight & have back issues. A 7.5cm (I think) sim, & folding camp bed is still an uncomfortable night for me so off to investigate the 15cm one. I don't k ow if the folding campbed is worth its space...
