Moving from family tent to 2 smaller tents?

Hi
I'm wondering about replacing our 6 person Vango Icarus with 2 smaller (2/3/4) person tents as kids are now a bit older. Eldest is 15 and wants his own space.
Possibly one slightly bigger than the other.

This for camping in France - we only sat inside the big tent once last time, so outside other than sleeping. Needs to be able to withstand a french thunderstorm though! UK camping we probably still need the bigger tent for shelter!

Has anyone got any suggestions? Help is much appreciated!

@TheRedbarrows Thank you!
The Gelert Chinook looks just right for the teen. Possibly even 2 of them to accommodate all 4 of us.

Hmm, looking more closely at the Gelert Chinook it might not have a sewn in groundsheet in the porch area, if that is important to you.

And I can't find any reference to the HH (waterproofing level). Though Gelert products are generally reputable and reliable.

Thanks. I do like our current sewn in groundsheet but smaller ones I've seen don't have this.
Think hh was 3000mm.

We did this, so liberating to not have that beast of a tent and all the tables and chairs and crap. We have two really cheap little 2 person tents (teens need separating) and a 4 man 2 bedroom tent for us, similar to this. Plus bought a tarp from Decathlon as a windbreak/gazebo.

I have a small tent, too. Teens have been in their own small tents since they were about 9 or 10.

We sit outdoors, under the tarp if it is raining or we need shade, or we sit out by the fire. Small stove, a chair each, a modest table, a modest cupboard (and then only if we do more than 3 nights) , coolbox - that's pretty much it.

This is what I dream of. No trailer full of camping junk!!!!
We're having to rethink a backpacking trip and revert back to France (which I love) but want to stream line.
And not get home and have to dry out humongous tent that takes up whole living room when it's raining.

Does it not cost more if you take two tents? As in, paying for two plots rather than one big one? Three kids for us, and that might solve our current tent dilemma

HappyHolidays75 · 24/05/2019 20:29

Good question @frugalkitty. I was assuming that we'll take up no more space with 2 so same cost......that might be more the case in French style sites where you book a pitch rather than a free-for-all.

Hmm, I might have to investigate further. We have a tent and awning but one of the kids usually sleeps in the main living part of the tent. We could downsize if we'd be able to have two smaller tents.....worth looking into I think.
