What gas canister do I need?

Hi all I've never posted here before..we aren't new to camping but we normally just take the George foreman as we only do 2 nights max..

However we have just managed to buy a lovely unused sunngas dual burner and grill and its come with a propane regulator. Does this mean we can only use propane or can we use a 70/30 propane butane mix? This is probably a really silly question but I don't want to get a huge canister because I don't feel comfortable storing it in the house when it's out of use.

Thanks in advance!

Does it look like this www.amazon.co.uk/SunnGas-Grill-Master-Double-Burner/dp/B001NPCWC0?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 ?

The regulator goes with the gas, not with the stove. So with that regulator you will need a propane gas bottle. If you want to use Butane, the blue Calor Gss or Campingaz bottles, you need to swap to a butane regulator.

Isn’t the propane / butane mix usually in the small gas cartridges as shown in this stove www.amazon.co.uk/SunnGas-Duo-Double-Burner-Stove/dp/B001NPCW9I?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 ? You can’t use these if the stove is built for a hose connection.

The butane Campingaz 904 isn’t too massive.

As above really. Propane burns slightly hotter.
The big advantage is if the ambient temp starts to drop to single figures the Butane won't come out of the bottle, Propane is good for well below Zero.
Firstly you need a bottle. Calor is the easiest to get a refill for but not the cheapest,
We use these www.calor.co.uk/shop/all/gas-bottles/propane-gas-bottles/6kg-propane-gas-bottle.html
We use Propane as we go in summer and winter, Easter Sunday was lovely here but frosty first thing so Butane would have struggled.
WE just keep the bottles in the garage or shed.
Easiest way would be just take your stove to some one who sells gas.
A bottle should last among time
Campinggaz is a very small bottle but very expensive

Thanks every one. I did wonder inceywinceyette if they were specific to smaller stoves. It does look like that one yes.

Okay I'm going to see if there are any empty cylinders on gumtree Grin

Its worth asking at places that sell cylinders I have been given some in the past for free, local tips won't take them so people dump them , BOC will give you Calor as they can't use them, calor will give you shell which is BOC, just make certain you can exchange any you buy as some are obsolete, its worth talking to local gas suppliers first as sometimes they do them with no rental.

The gas bottles do last for ages and ages. I can’t remember the last time I swapped my Campingaz 904 for a full one. I use the 904 size as it is not too bulky in the car, being shorter than the 907, and I have never found it hard to find. The small DIY shop at the end of our road has them, most big camp shops, and plenty of garages in camping areas. You get loads of warning that they are running low because you can hear the gas sloshing about when you shake it. I don’t need to think about it, unlike the aerosol style that run out before you have made tea. (Not quite, but....) and I suspect work out more expensive in actual gas in the long run.

Thanks everyone. Someone local has an empty campingaz 904 for 5 pounds so I am going to grab that and exchange in go outdoors. That seems to be the most portable one.

Well worth it, very portable and easy to store, easy to exchange in Europe too. Down side is the gas is a bit more expensive but on the scale of things all that matters is having quality time on holiday, I hope you enjoy it
