So i need to book camping for the summer holidays. Up to two weeks but probably just ten days.

Two jack russels and one 14yo dd.

Its getting harder to occupy Dd now as she is too old to pitch up at the play area and join in with the younger ones, which is what she has done previously.

We like the coast but don't need to camp directly near.

Great Yarmouth? Or is that still considered SE? My mum and nan used to go to Hemsby for years when they were younger

MaidofKent78 · 19/04/2019 15:08

Northumbria. So much to see and do for everyone. It's a stunning county and relatively quiet compared to other holiday destinations in the UK.

Blastandtroph · 19/04/2019 15:16

Another vote for Northumberland. Great beaches and lots to do. We are heading there with our teen DC this Summer. If too far, north Norfolk coast.

TheoriginalLEM · 19/04/2019 16:06

Great Yarmouth very much considered oop north Grin

TheOriginal my geography really isn't the best when it comes to places in the UK Grin

GemmeFatale · 19/04/2019 23:28

I came to say Northumberland but it seems I am not the first.

Heyha · 19/04/2019 23:35

North Norfolk, somewhere like Wells next to the Sea

mildshock · 20/04/2019 00:16

Northumberland is lovely, as are the lakes if you're looking for something drastically different from south east and west.

Some lovely campsites in Gloucestershire, Thistledown farm is nice, and they do pizza on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer.

Also lots to do within an hours drive.

Likeagibbon · 20/04/2019 00:50

We live in se too. We like mersea island essex. Hastings and Bournemouth.

InceyWinceyette · 20/04/2019 06:22

What sort of things goes your Dd like doing?

Ricekrispie22 · 20/04/2019 15:35

Flamingoland theme park in Yorkshire has a campsite www.flamingoland.co.uk/holiday-resort/camping-and-touring/camping-and-caravan-prices/

wibbleee · 21/04/2019 08:23

wibbleee · 21/04/2019 08:26

wells has a nice cider brewry/ shop. try before you buy! nice posh local gins....

Redskyandrainbows67 · 21/04/2019 08:27

Lake District - no end of things to entertain your dd

ajandjjmum · 21/04/2019 08:28

Can your DD invite a friend?

TheInvestigator · 21/04/2019 08:30

Anywhere is Scotland. As long as it's access land, you can pitch a tent and wild camp. It's amazing! There are some beautiful areas to hike through and then camp beside a loch or on a beach.

TheInvestigator · 21/04/2019 08:31

Just realised you're taking dogs! Doesn't work so well if wild camping! Ignore Me!

wibbleee · 21/04/2019 10:52

i know loads that wildcamp with kids and dogs.....

TheInvestigator · 21/04/2019 10:57

@wibbleee

I don't own dogs and the only people I used to wild camp with who had dogs never brought them. Said it was too much work with having to secure them at night and bring hike with the dog food etc so I just went off what they said. Sorry!

I take my primary aged kids and they love it so kids aren't an issue at all.

woodcutbirds · 21/04/2019 11:04

Another vote for Northumberland. It's stunning and there's so much to do. Loads of castles, seal and puffin watching boat rides, masses of silver sandy beaches with rock pools, great hiking, biking, horseriding, fishing, sailing, lovely villages and towns to explore, like Alnwick with its Harry Potter castle, poison garden, tree house cafe etc.

SherlockHolmes · 21/04/2019 11:19

Depends how old your DD is and what you like doing. FWIW I wouldn't touch Great Yarmouth with a barge pole but other places in Norfolk are great.

Things to do there :

Bewilderwood
Hire a boat on the Broads
Fossil hunting at Happisburgh
Rock pools in West Runton
Huge beaches at Wells /Holkham
Norwich Castle
Great Yarmouth for a day trip
Pleasuewood Hills theme park
Sheringham or Cromer for fish and chips
Blickling Hall
Sandringham Estate

InceyWinceyette · 21/04/2019 11:33

She says the Dd is 14.

Too old for Bewilderwood.

But you have to give us, OP, some sort of clue as to what sort of 14 yo she is in terms of what she enjoys.

If sporty and outdoors Norfolk is a good choice. Camping by the Canal has kayak hire from the site.

If she prefers places to look at shops, theme parks etc , a teen entertainmentc club on site etc, probably less so.

Funf · 23/04/2019 07:39

Why not North Wales have you been going to the wrong bits?
Lakes can be nice but weather is often wet

clucky3 · 27/05/2019 16:52

North wales or Anglesey are great. Loads to do and lovely beaches. Bit of a trek from the south east though, Pembrokeshire is probably more accessible

grannycake · 02/06/2019 16:58

We went to Northumberland at Easter and it was stunning. Gorgeous beaches, history, bookshops, but we were lucky with weather.
