We usual go EHU but when at festivals this isn't an option. Looking for recommendations; gas or other types.

Cadac Carri Chef 2…. expensive but brilliant. It has a very large cooking area and various plates you can change (pizza stone, skottle, griddle, chef pan, paella pan, etc). I have mine set up outside at home as a summer BBQ. It packs down really easily and comes with us whenever we go away. You can use high pressure or low pressure gas but I think you need a different orange gas pipe for each. Lots of videos on YouTube to give you a taster. I shopped around for the cheapest I could find on line and then added extra plates gradually.

For festivals I use my trangia stove / cookset & have a jetboil flash for boiling water for coffees etc.
Depending on which festival some don’t allow gas ( hence the Trangia ).
Both the above are lightweight & compact - when transporting from car.
My preferred is my Cobb (kitchen in a box) - this is heavier and not so compact.

Yes! That's my baby! Do some more Googling as you may get it cheaper from a more obscure camping shop. There are pages and pages of them on Google. They can also be found on Gumtree. Also check which plates you are getting. They can be bought separately and added gradually. I think the chef pan is the most versatile and easiest to clean. They are such good quality that a wipe with a paper towel will suffice on a campsite. I don't have the paella pan. You can also use your own pan or kettle if you use the ring that comes with it.

It's £199 on Amazon and you get the chef pan and BBQ plate. Can probably be found cheaper if you have time to search.

Thank you.

Cadac as suggested above. Expensive but amazing and worth every penny. Especially the pizza stone - cooking your own pizzas whilst camping is brilliant!

Sorry for abandoning my post! Been looking at the Cobb kitchens. onaroll Do you know if they can be used with a pan; for one pot meals? Or would the trangia be better for that?

Sorry to hijack; how small does the Cadac chef pack down? We have the Campingaz 400ST but always looking out for shiny new stuff!

Awning10 · 03/06/2019 19:05

It's pretty big... have a look at this packing video on YouTube:

The Safari Chef is much smaller but wouldn't be big enough for a hungry family.

We’ve got a cadac chef 2 as well - its fab and we use it outside too. It’s not small though - has a carry bag.

If you’re interested in small and fab there’s the Jetboil or for even more ‘ooooh’ value there is the biolite stove or fire pit which charges usb devices Grin

Outside in the garden obviously. Blush
