I know it's been done before but no threads this year! I'm looking for your 2019 Loire campsite recommendations please. We are going late July/early August en route from Roscoff to the Alps and are looking for a nice, not too big, quiet campsite in the Loire for 3/4 nights. Not bothered about organised entertainment or kids clubs, although pool would be nice for my water baby DD. It's me, DH and DD (7).

We've booked Milin-Kerhe for a couple of nights when we arrive, which looks like our kind of place, then head to Loire.

I'm looking at Huttopia Saumur (I think formerly Chantepie which I've seen recommended on older threads). Is it good, is a river view pitch worth it? I'd like to visit a good preferably organic, vineyard to buy some cremant and we'd also like some cycling as will probably take our bikes, and beautiful countryside and a nice chateaux or 2 plus somewhere to make DD happy.

Also, are pitches in France grass generally or would we need some under tent carpet thingy? How about tent pegs if it's been particularly dry and therefore hard ground? France camping tips much appreciated. Thanks.

I can recommend L'Arada parc

Or, for a different area (Normandy) but a great vibe, monfreville

Ferme du Prunay, Le Moulin Fort or Le Chant d’Oiseau

Thanks, I'll check them out.

We love Huttopia Saumur - just the right size and beautiful views. I wouldn’t bother with a pitch with a view as you can sit at the picnic benches and gaze (perfect with a glass of wine at sunset).

To get to the campsite you pass through all the major wine producers so could pick up a box or two.

We also really enjoyed huttopia saumur. We went fairly close to the end of the season so it was quiet. Views are lovely. The campsite is high up, so we watch a thunder storm further down the valley while we were dry up the hill.

Thanks for the positive reviews of Huttopia Saumur, it does look nice.

It may be too basic for you, but there is a municipal campsite on an island in the Loire, walkable to the lovely cobbled town of Amboise with a chateau and Da Vinci’s home. Municipal swimming pool next door and good play equipment on a track behind the site on the island.

amboise

here is another small site we have used en route in that area, again walkable to a town. Site was better facilities but the town not as good.

Thanks a lot, i'll check them out.

We stayed at both chantenpie and it's then sister site etang about 5 years ago
www.campingetang.com/en/loire-valley-camping,
Both lovely sites but we preferred etang due to the sense of space. If you've got young children, it has a lovely amusement park on site and also easy cycling/walking access to the local town.

Another vote for Prunay here.

Had a fab stay there. Peaceful and lovely low key kids activities (walk the goats, make bread, meet the small animals). Only site mine have ever wanted to do everything on offer.

Have stayed at a couple of huttopia sites now and really like them. The one in Paris was nice & then we also stayed here

europe.huttopia.com/en/site/lac-de-sille/

Probably further north than you want. However I think whichever one you go to you will have a nice time.
