HELP: How do you get a pop-up tent to pop-down

Anyone know of a web-page with instructions and pictures showing how to fold a pop-up tent into its storage position?

ah, the old pop up pop down conundrum.... you simply fold flat and slide it behind the sofa because these things never, never I tell you, go back into the box!

is it for actual camping or a play tent? the camping ones are so pants - so qucik to put up! take forever to put down!
play tent - fold it a bit along lines to 'encourage' it to fold and sort of lie on it.

mummydoit · 09/07/2007 14:26

Is it one of those kiddy sun-shade ones? With ours, you hold it at the sides, bring the sides together and cross them over, pulling it towards your chest as you do. It just sort of crumples up. Sorry, really bad explanation! Wish I'd kept the instructions so I could copy them out for you though, having said that, DH could never do it, even with the instructions. Maybe it's one of those things that you either can do or you can't, like rolling your tongue.

Thanks everyone. It's a camping one rather than a kiddy one. I have managed to fold it down to a circle that is exactly twice the size of the storage packet.
I knew that 'easy-up' would mean 'impossible to get down'. Why did I buy it? Why?
Will opt for the 'swear a lot and cram it in a drawer'.

Oh SeaSalty thank you. Crossed posts. Perhaps this will do the trick, though the one on the webpage looks posher than my tesco one.

is it a flash?

they have instructions sewn into them iirc

it is very easy once you have done it

concertina up so you have BIG oval, fold down onto itself to smaller circle and secure with elastic

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 14:41

My pleasure Muddling - though I also think that 'sort of lie on it' is great advice

Have just watched SeaSAlty's video. I'm sure this will help. Thanks everyone. Off to DS2's sports day now.

fold and reach out for the box and...out it pops into your lip.

And fold and tuck under chin and reach for the box and...out it pops onto the floor.

And fold and tuck under chin and bend and reach for the box and...out it pops... and blasphemy.

And fold and tuck under the chin and bend and apply pressure with foot and reach for the box.....yes...yes.........no out it pops into your eye. YOU LITTLE FUCKER.

And shove into back of garage behind the christmas tree.

voila.

MuddlingThrough · 09/07/2007 14:48

Lol, Slubber. Sounds like a good exercise regime though.

Yes, you need to be limber that's for sure. And have a readily available and lurid swear vocabulary.

Just skimming through camping topic and remembered this thread.

The final (metaphorical) word goes to my pop up tent having been shoved down behing a load of crap at the back of the garage.

Go into garage to find bottle of sparkling water. Rumage around at the back in the dark. Little shitting pop up tent pops up out at you. You shriek like a girl, and fall over with bike on top of you.

I tell you, Satan lives in a pop up princess castle tent in Hades.

JonRonseal · 17/07/2007 10:18

, Slubber. That conjures up a great picture. I'm Muddling, BTW, and my pop-up tent is still pulsatingly erect in the garage.

You have to be really firm with them - show 'em who's boss. they are like naughty puppies.

Once they are in a circle, you have to twist and fold all in one go, really firmly - then stuff em in the bag quickly.

We have one that sleeps all 4 of us (cosily) and it took a lot of training to get it to behave
