Dordogne Campsite

We’re looking for a campsite in the Dordogne (or somewhere nearby) this year. In the past we’ve stayed at La Garangeoire, Sequoia Parc and Camping les Alicourts and enjoyed them all. The DC will be 9,7 and nearly 3 by then. Any ideas of family sites that are as good as the ones we’ve already been to? Thanks in advance.

limeuil May be a bit small for you, but it is right on the river and you can just float downstream on inflatables or barbecue on the beach.
We loved it (but went without children, although the kids there seemed to be having fun)

Eurocamp had ready tents there so may have details on their website. (We took our Campervan)

Thanks milliways. It was my DH posting there and when he said campsite he really meant a caravan 😂 I will look at the one you have linked though. We have been with Al Fresco who we thought were really good, Canvas who weren't bad and Eurocamp who were more basic and used but good.
The kids are at an age where they love their pool and slides etc. The last 2 years we’ve been away 14 nights (driven over) and split the breaks between 2 campsites.
I’ll search the travel threads for some ideas when I have a sec

We loved Al fresco, it also used Siblu, canvas and Matthews (cheapest but limited sites).
We gave our kids the option of 2 days driving and a site on the Meditteranean coast, or one day and somewhere like the Charente.
Could recommend lots of sites further South on the coast if you venture further!

Definitely Saint Agit Loisirs. Amazing pool facilities.

samlovesdilys · 14/01/2019 19:50

St Avits is amazing for its water park but it is BIG. I recommend Les Paradis which is right on the vezere river. Really family friendly, lush site, clean bathrooms and big pool (but no slides).

Oldtiger · 14/01/2019 22:10

Thanks all. I don’t know if the kids could cope without water slides after the last 2 years! They absolutely love them! My problem is that I like the idea of splitting it between2 campsites but that hikes up costs
I would consider further South in the future but our youngest isn’t 3 until the end of the year and I think from the North East of England to South of France is just a tad far to drive/ferry. Great to get ideas tho thanks

penyrals?

We have stayed at other Sandaya sites and they are very good, you can book direct for their vans.
They have a selection of sites with water slide features too!

samlovesdilys · 15/01/2019 21:50

If it's slides you want then St Avits is amazing! They're is also one in Daglan that has several slides!!

Greentent · 16/01/2019 16:44

Soleil Plage - right next to river and with slides.

millimat · 16/01/2019 22:44

I really rate Sandaya sites.
Why has no one mentioned les valades yet ShockShockShock? OK so it's not got slides as such, but the inflatables in the lake are even better!

hillbilly · 17/01/2019 17:31

Millimat I was also wondering why no one had mentioned les valades!

Oldtiger · 17/01/2019 20:55

Ooh thank you everyone! I’ve got so much to look at this weekend!

Another vote for Penyrals. Beautiful spot. Not too large but loads of activities.
Close to Sarlat

backinthebox · 18/01/2019 12:00

Another one for Les Valades. Between kayaking on the lake, playing on the inflatables, catching wild crayfish, fishing, and the pools there's not much time for slides. But if you want slides there is a lagoon nearby with slides. We've been to Les Valades 3 times and never got to the slide lagoon place.

They have various static mobile homes and cabins with bathrooms and fully equipped (ie beer fridge and barbecue) kitchen which have kept my tent-phobic OH happy. The space you get between pitches is much greater than I've come across anywhere else.

We have been here a few times with our caravan, it’s just south of the Dordogne with a small tributary running through it. No slides, but pools and the river has a small beach area. We first went when mine were 11 and 9 ish and have been a few times since - now 21 and 19 they are asking when we going again!

No idea how it compares to your previous sites, but it gets a bread delivery, is close to a Pizza restaurant for eating in or out, and a few mins drive back to Castelnaud on the river, which has a selection of shops and restaurants.
