LOL whizzz! I feel a bit like that. Have done 4 trips in our new tent and am now really hankering after a outwell vermont now. Was actually quite glad when my dad rang today to say he'd checked my tent and three pole sections had snapped and ripped a hole in the inner tent! (It has been left pitched at a campsite near him for the past month so we could go every weekend apart from this one!) Does that mean I can buy a new tent now?

Wotznotreallyhere · 24/06/2007 11:11

We have one of those (8) and I would like a smaller one of those (6). Much more cosy.

Peachy · 24/06/2007 16:48

The Mallards are coola rne't they?

Know how you feel- Dh and I are after a Khyam QE (classic XXL) for weekend camps for fast pitching- and we've already narrowed the tent after this down to 2 (vail or Breckenridge) LOL, even though ours has a good few trips in it yet and is gorgeous

dramaqueen · 24/06/2007 17:00

I've come to the conclusion that you actually need two tents. One for long summer holidays and one for weekend camping!

Peachy · 24/06/2007 17:08

You do.

Weekend tents should be able to go from bag to up in a max of 15 minutes imo.

Which is why the QE range is good (if you haven't seen them go up the khyam website here has a pitching video (under the XXXl classic- though we're after the XL) which shows how fast they are

Wotznotreallyhere · 24/06/2007 17:36

Weekend tents should also come with someone who packs everything for you on Friday and comes back on Monday to unpack and wash and put it all back for you.

bliss if only.

Lucycat · 24/06/2007 18:31

That is why we have 3 tents Peachy!

and I'm seriously coveting the Norfolk lake at the moment - just need to earn some money to pay for it!

Wotznotreallyhere · 24/06/2007 18:47

Lucycat three !! No that's being very organised!

TinyGang · 24/06/2007 18:51

We've got one very similar to the one you want...but still not satisfied and thinking of getting a trailer tent instead!

Wotznotreallyhere · 24/06/2007 19:19

what about a tent and a jeep, just found
this

jeangenie · 24/06/2007 19:24

Wotz - I love the look of your hawk - a tunnel tent with a porch - do you know how long I have been searching????

do you mind if I ask what you liked and disliked about it? how fast to put up was it? any neon in it? (pet peeve!) was it light or dark in the living area? anything I've forgotten, feel free to tell me....

THANKS

Wotznotreallyhere · 24/06/2007 19:29

No I have one of those 8 birth things like Whizzz ! No hawk.

Whizzz · 24/06/2007 19:37

The 8 bert tent we have is a Wynnster Hawk 8 - the domey bit is huge & of the 2 bedrooms, one has just a screen curtain that rolls up for even more room

sorry wotz and whizz

whizz, any further info on the hawk much appreciated!

Blueblob · 25/06/2007 09:54

We have a Khyam XXXL, they don't seem to sell them anymore but similar to the XXL but extra bit on the back for more living space. I love it as a tent but it never seems to go up that quickly!

The middle bit does once you've got the hang of it. But it's all the pegging, groundsheets, inner tents. I can never work out why it takes us so long . 'spose that't the prob of big tents.

Def think you need at least 2 tent . Now have a Santiago as well. www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent.asp?category=Khyam&type=Family%20Short%20Stay

Hoping just because it's smaller and with less equipment it'll be easier for weekend camping. Wish I hadn't looked at the website as now thinking the Harvard Deluxe would've given me more versatile sleeping arrangments!

No no I have to stop thinking like that. The Santiago has better space if it rains for me.

We have a little festival tent and would really like a utility tent. Sure if I put up all our tents we'd have more living space than our house . I'd LOVE one of those tiny touring caravans. Dunno what I'd use it for and wouldn't fit the kids but they look cute. Oh I do know what I'd use it for, I'd disapear in it for a week of peace and quiet.

Whizzz · 25/06/2007 14:48

It's a great tent - huge inside. As I said one room is just a curtain & can easily be rolled up & out of the way - the other is a 'normal' zipped one.
Good points IMO : big, can stand up in it in all areas, not jut the middle, its not toooo tricky to put up if there are 2 of you (the most tedious thing is all the guy ropes & pegs), SIG makes it snug, I liked the doors opposite each other so when it was hot, we had a breeze through
Down side : I wondered if it was really cold - it might take a long time to warm up as its so big, it has a big footprint - so may get charged extra at some places, the front canopy i think could be better, the sides don't give that much shelter for cooking as they are angled. As it pitches inner tent first, you have to get the flysheet over the top of the dome which is tricky if you arent tall as its so high !
