Modern campsite in Mid/South France for novices?

Hi, we’ve just had a second babg and our usual nice hotel stays are now looking ridiculously expensive... is there anywhere in the south of France that’s a bit green, ‘a bit posh’ (not a world away from a decent hotel) but also good fun for little ones? Doesn’t need to be a beach, mountains/rivers all good... never done this before so need some advice...

@Mcgieml3 I’d look at some reviews on UKCampsite. We usually trust their rebiews and haven’t come a cropper yet.

I haven’t stayed in that area though. Hopefully someone will be along soon Smile

We started staying in campsites when our first was 1. 15 years later it still works for us. Back then the fact that the pool was not visible but was accessible and usually very suitable for kids made it a no brainer. Campsites are generally catered for kids of all ages. We usually choose Yelloh campsites and the best or newest of their cabins. They will have coffee machines, dishwashers, ensuite rooms, tv, etc.

Our first camp was at Capeyrou in the Dordogne. It fab. Beautiful location (river, castles), had a lovely pool, clean showers and had a nice mix of being busy with lots of kids but also quiet when it needed to be.

Look at some of the Pierre Vacances holiday villages. They're half way between a eurocamp and a decent hotel. My favourites are Le Rouret, Lacanau and Pont Royal en Provence.

Oh excellent thank you!

Are any of those near a decent sized airport?

Lacanau is 55km from Bordeaux airport (easyJet, Ryanair and British airways all fly there from London). Pont Royal is almost the same distance from Marseille which is served by loads of airlines from lots of airports.

We really enjoy the Esterel site in the south. It’s located between Cannes and St Tropez and is nice and modern. The Eurocamp accommodation there is a bit tatty, but the site itself is really well maintained and attractive with just the right amount of buzz and activity but not overflowing with people or overwhelmingly big and loud. It’s an easy hour’s drive (maybe less) from the Nice airport. www.esterel-caravaning.co.uk/en/

Oh, and that area is so much fun with kids for a bit of poshness for mum. Drive along the coast to Cannes (the view is stunning as the road hugs the seaside cliffs) for a day of beach/shopping/yacht spotting, Monaco aquarium is amazing for kids (google the playground they have on the top of the building!), St Tropez, lots of art museums, Eze for a dramatic view, Antibes for history, etc.

If you can easily get to Corsica (bit further afield than you were expecting with France, possibly?), the Yelloh village site there is possibly the best site we’ve ever stayed at. They have brilliant beachfront chalets and a great pool. Gorgeous place for a family holiday.
