£5 a night campsites in Hants/Dorset/wiltshire, do they exsist????

We have stayed at Woody Hyde in Corfe, Dorset and it was £5 a night but it is a bit far for 1/2 nights. I can't find anywhere locally that I can afford, all the new forest sites are £15+ per night and there are tons that cost over £20 by the time you add in all the supplemnents. Does anyone know of anywhere that I can actually afford to camp at? All we need is a toilet block, and preferrably showers. A field is great so the children have room to run around. We want to go next w/e but I have spent hours trawling UKcamping and found nowhere suitable. Hope someone can help.....

Hi arwen - I'm doing exactly the same as you...trying to find somewhere cheap but decent! Have you looked at Wyke Down Campsite - it is in Andover, Hants and it is extremely nice in a lovely rural setting. It has all that you'd need - loos/showers etc and a pub next door! Look at their website - loads of info.

I'm still trying to find somewhere that is in Hants/Doset/Wilts and is clean, cheap and in an open space....I can't stand anything too commercial and everything I've seen so far has been up in the £25-£30 bracket and times that by 5 nights or so it doesn't work out that cheap!

Thanks, it is still £12 a night for a tent and 2 children though, I can see why because it has great facilities but still too expensive for me.Will let you know if I find anywhere!

Do you know what gets me is that to camp at a site during the off peak time so relatively cheap yet when the weather gets better and it becomes peak time they double their prices!

Please let me know if you find anywhere and I'll do the same! We want to get away at the end of this month - 23/24 - and am yet to find anywhere that ticks all the boxes and is cheap! Wishful thinking praps!?!

You could try here:

St Leonard's Farm - www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1260

I don't know how much it is, but it's a more basic site than some, so might be cheaper. I've stayed there a few times with a very large party and they stuck us in "the meadow". There was tons of space to run around in. We had room to put up a volleyball net.

As far as I remember the showers were hot and clean.

Thanks surfermum, it also looks nice. still to expensive though at £11 a night low season, that's my budget for 2 nights really! I would think I am being ridiculous if we hadn't already camped at a £5 a night site (and that was in the summer hols so high season.) I do appreciate all the ideas and will bookmark them in case we come into money! Anyone got any other good ideas?

My back garden??!!! I'll charge you a fiver a night!!

I think to find a site that only charges £5 per night at this time of year is going to be almost impossible.

I'll keep looking though and I'll let you know if I do find something. Where exactly do you want to go?

Milliways · 15/06/2007 22:24

Britchcombe Farm is fab & only £4 per night per adult.

arwen · 16/06/2007 07:33

Thanks, that looks fantastic. A bit farther than I intended but it looks perfect for us and I can see that I need to extend my search in different directions. Thanks to you kind ladies I have a few new places to try. Just need to work out if it's cheaper in diesel to travel an hour and a half for a £4 a night site or 30 mins and pay £12..... I do so hate being broke!

Other ideas still gratefully received, am building up a nice virtual brochure!

Britchcombe Farm looks perfect....I've emailed them already to ask for a reservation....just what we were looking for - not the area we were looking but who cares!! Read the reviews - they are all excellent. Thank you so much!!!

Surfermum · 16/06/2007 13:23

And is it worth driving further to get a cheaper site, and paying more in petrol?

solsburyhill · 17/06/2007 15:43

There's a lovely campsite in cornwall called 'Noongallas' which charges £5 per night per adult and £2.50 per under 16's.basic site on the edge of the woods, no shop but thats not a problem, hot showers and campfires allowed (wood sold by the bag). lovely relaxed atmosphere.

I can honestly say i dont know any that price- maybe coz we live in a tourist belt though. Can't say i'm surprised- these days camping is so trendy that they can afford to up their prices, although tbh the one we just got back from (£18 a night for 5- a forest hols site)was half empty.

We stayed at Britchcombe Farm in The May B/H rain! Marcella is 79 & fab, does a wicked cream tea as well. Loos & Showers are few & basic but work, flush, hot water etc - all you need.

We walked directly from the farm to the Ridgeway & the White Horse - totally free, fantastic views & space to play.

Would have offered you my back garden if you'd asked last year but our new house has a much smaller one .
