Help! Have booked a spot at a campsite...now what?!

Hello all -
Have just booked a pitch at the campsite on Hollywell Bay (Cornwall) for August and now need to to find and buy an easy to assemble 6 man tent ideally with three bedrooms and all the other camping gear!
At present I'm looking at www.millets.co.uk/millets.storefront/product/094695.a spx?searchbreadcrumbs=hampton

I also need to advice on how/what to cook for two teenagers, a fussy toddler and two adults and keep them occupied so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jules x

where do you live mummyjules? i've got a 3 bedroom tent you can borrow if you want, got it from netto's for about £70 a couple of years ago and only used it once. not sure its particularly easy to put up though, well not for 2 women and 3 screaming under 6's!

Ooooh, another one to recommend my bargain of the year to!

MJ, look at the Vango Vista 800 or the Khyam Ontario - v similar tents, straight-line ones so easier to put up than the ones with pods sticking out all over the place. The Vango has been discontinued so is much cheaper than it was last year but the Khyam is even cheaper than that (and cheaper than your Millets one).

You need a much bigger tent than a 6-berth for 5 people, even when one is tiny - these are both 8s and with large middle living sections so should be fine for you.

Agree with wendy, there are 5 of us and we have an 8 man, it is theoutwell indiana 8 and it is just right for us, lots of room if it rains, front canopy for cooking under etc.
I also agree that the tunnell tents are so much easier to put up, our last one was the sort with a central inner with 3 pods and it was really hard work putting it up whereas this one takes me and dh about 45 minutes to put up including pegging down and pegging guy ropes.
As for cooking we find bbqs go down well, the kids (well they are 13, 11 and 7) love making kebabs, salad etc. Or for the first day we take an already cooked at home curry, spag bol or chilli then you only need to heat it and cook some rice or pasta.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

I'll agree about the indiana, although it did take us a little while longer to put it up but it was our first ever trip, and we had huge debate about whereabouts on the pitch to put it to begin with. Was brilliant with the 3dc, and we too cooked something up for the first night and took it with us, which is perhaps just as well considering how long it took us.
Have to say it didn't take as long in the garden when we practised

Mary - well we do get the kids to make up the curved poles while we spread the tent out and then they put together the legs while we put the curved poles through the top, we are quite regimented when we put it up and everyone knows their job

If you can get to a camping shop with a good range of display tents I would really advise doing it. There are lots of good tents with quite different layouts and features. There is no substitute for actually getting inside them. There isn't one which is best for everyone. The price range is very wide too. An expensive tent can be good value if you are buying what you know you want but there are some very servicable cheaper models (and some real duds). UKcampsite.co.uk is a very informative site.

For what its worth we have a Sunncamp Vario 6 which we have been happy with (for 4 of us). People normally find they need a tent which supposedly sleeps a couple more people than there are. Be careful about tents which have a spread shape if they are too big some sites won't have them, rectangular is easier.

Lastly, someone posted a Millets discount code on UKCampsite.co.uk which might be useful to you.

Good Luck

Feeling Old - think that may be the main thing about it really. Nobody knew their own job as such. Will come with practice. Not sure i would trust my 4 year old with the poles just yet though . Was a fab time though. Off again in 5 weeks.
