keycamp - no sun cream allowed!

Just looking at keycamp and under "pool information" for the site I was looking at it said no shorts, t shirts or suncream. Has anyone else been and is this enforced? I couldn't believe it, is this really irresponsible with children or is it just me?

yes we've experienced the no shorts and tshirts rule, but never suncream TBH - you could just plaster it on before you get to the pool - where abouts are you going?

LMB just looking at the moment. Planning our first holiday abroad since having kids. Looking for something for two 5yr old girls. What do men wear in the pool, my Dh only wears swim shorts.

well he won't be allowed to wear swimming shorts if there is a written rule, good old-fashioned speedos only! on some men they look good!! but not on my dh unfortunately

daisy1999 · 24/08/2004 18:57

My Dh will have to swim nude then (OMG what a picture) he will not wear anything other than shorts.

Yes this is true. Most, if not all campsites in France specify :

no suncream to be applied,
no swimming shorts - only Speedo types
no inflatables.

However, in my experience NONE of these rules have been applied. I got back on Saturday from our latest Keycamp holiday, and DH wore swimming shorts (along with other men) and we were all applying suncream by the pool.

Slinky · 24/08/2004 18:59

In Italy, they specify you wear swimming hats!! -and the place I stayed at did enforce this rule

daisy1999 · 24/08/2004 19:01

I understand why they say no suncream so they can keep the pool clean but it's completely unworkable and there's no way I would let my Dd get sunburnt.

we key camped in France... just kept ds in a long t shirt - as far as I am aware the shorts rule is mainly for the adults its to stop ahem
pubic hair clogging the filters... FWIW I could not get ds into speedos, and he never got challenged

notthecod · 24/08/2004 19:32

no they mean no suncream the moment you get in
they said this at ours bu t veeryone did but discreetly
it must make the pool all greasy

daisy1999 · 24/08/2004 19:36

Kids will be in the pool all the time and this is the easiest place to burn because the sun reflects off the water. NTC do you mean you can apply it at the poolside?

What about getting some ultrasun or P20 that is an all-day apply once suncream? They're not as greasy and don't wash off when you swim, so I can't think it would harm the pool, plus you can apply discretely in your room in the morning then forget about it.

daisy1999 · 24/08/2004 19:47

Good thinking Georgina. I wonder whether the whole of France is anti-sunscreen? Maybe we'll be arrested for smuggling it into the country. I don't think I'll risk customs but I'll buy it from someone on a street corner on the black market. I wonder whether I'll manage to get factor 60 or do you think I'll be fobbed off with something less pure? I blame the EEC myself.

We went to a campsite in Frejus last year. It stated no swim shorts or suncream in the brochure (my DH wit worried!!?) When we got there everyone was wearing shorts and t shirts and suncream was being applied liberally.
